I mean beside the costs, it must have taken him months to figure this out and make it work ! Excellent job IMHO !

 

Yeah i saw that on the fighterops forums.

 

At the end of the movie it cuts out just before touchdown. You think he bottled the landing ?

Could be, because he was not looking at the plane as ususal but to assume the aircraft altitude, speed and angle of attack from the cockpit view which is definitely very different from flying a RC aircraft in a standard way. I was wondering, how he was able to imagine the distance and flight direction of his plane from the cockpit view anyway, usually you have to constantly monitor where your aircaft is to keep it within the RC range.

He must be very familiar with the area to maintain situational awareness.

Considering where he is landing it is more likely that the camera would have gotten shaken around so much as to not make it worthwhile including in the film, which is why it was cut.
