What is the current state of VR in DCS; was your headset worth buying?

Even with my varifocal glasses (not ideal), problems with lenses steaming up or getting grotty, my nose getting tickled, visible pixels, generally lower detail, recently having to buy a new USB card for no reason, links to Facebook, etc. it is worth it :)

Takes 'flying' to a whole new level - landings seem easier and I even did an A2A refuelling, not having done one in months first time, just because it feels easier.

Have you seen the corrective lenses that are available to clip in to the Rift? Correction for distance vision is all you'll need.

problems with lenses steaming up .

Man, I get the same thing, any solutions you know about? I am hesitant to spray something on the lenses, usually I just wait for the temperatures to even out and fogging goes away.

Also, just wanted to say I am a huge VR fan with DCS. Doing ACM and BFM while actually checking your six o'clock it beyond words. I recently added a Gametrix seat with Simshaker, now I feel like I am actually in the jet with VR on(G force bumps and missile/gun feedback felt by Gametrix). I also like the fact with VR on your head, it feels like you have an helmet on like you do while flying a real jet.

IMHO there is no need for a dedicated VR squad. We have three VR pilots in our squad, the others still with various screen setups. No worries!

Swiss Jet Team is flying with the rift as a complete 6 ship aerobatic team.

the only problem we encountered was that we fly much closer and steady now... :D

Watched the vid in your sig. Nice 'pit! :)

How do you find it now, working switches etc whilst effectively blindfolded?

The age old cure of a little spit polished onto the lenses often cures the issue. Failing that, there is a product called Mist-X that any biker will know all about. Test it before applying it of course, because Oculus state that you shouldn't spray anything onto the lenses.

@Neil, will have to give that a try, thanks.

@Cripple, when using VR I don't use a lot of the Pit button and switches now (besides HOTAS and gear). I have heard some are having success if they align with the virtual world with the Pit (e.g. MFDs). When DCS releases the F/A-18 I plan to incorporate more of the cockpit with VR. I thought I read that real world military pilots have to find/locate all switches blindfolded, so VR is just making us pit builders do this all the time :)

Heh heh - my thoughts exactly. Admittedly I am working with faaaaaar fewer switches though! :music_whistling:

I received my cv1 lastnight. Can only run it reasonably on low settings, could someone tell me if there is much difference between low and high settings? Also what are the main video settings that determine sharpness and clarity in DCS? Overall I'm happy with the cv1 but can tell I need to tweek it a bit to get right. I was very impressed with the cockpit in my mirage! It was beautiful, the colours and textures come alive. I am a little worried how viable it is for say ww2 dog fighting though, but that may be my settings not optimised yet. I also got some major motion sickness at first and nearly chundered over my desk! I probably should of started out with something a little more comfortable than high g maneuvers in a mirage!

You really need to post your specs. There have been countless posts of people posting their settings. But do read up on the Async Space Warp thread.
