My GPU crashed

So, urgent, I need to by a new one.

I know that my rig need a upgrade, but for now I only have money to buy a GPU and a SSD.

Next year I will change the Mother Board, CPU and RAM.

 

Considering upcoming DCS 2.5 and future upgrade that I will do, what GPU should I buy, considering that I want 60 FPS in DCS 2.5?

 

1. GTX 1060, saving some money to invest in a SSD?

2. GTX 1070, Will DCS 2.5 needs this kind of performance to run with 60 FPS?

The 1060GTX is about as fast ( maybe 5% less according to reviews ) as my 980GTX @ 1440p.

 

Thats OK for around 60fps in 2.0 alpha....

 

If you have the money i`d get the 1070 and add SSD couple weeks later, you cant add a x10 to a 1060 and make it a 1070 6 weeks later °

Do you expect that your GTX 980 will run DCS 2.5 in 60 FPS all the time?

 

What is your in game configuration?

My two cents is to get the cheapest 1070 that you can lay your hands on. And if noise is a concern then perhaps avoid any of the blower type designs. This will do 1440p at 60fps plus in pretty much all titles. With DCS 2.0 yes you will get the 60fps.

Yes, I run 1440p Gsync Asus screen with 980GTX , my sig is not visible atm... sorry

 

based on 16GB/i7-4.8GHz/SSD foundation to be precise

 

 

I get anywhere from 50-144 fps in Nevada, depending on where and what I fly. Visibility is always set to extreme, and most on HIGH but shadows medium and flat terrain, rest is HIGH.

 

MSaa2x, 16x ASF, 512res cockpit ( NOT each frame ), no effects, Preload max, trees at 50%, grass 50% round about that is how I fly 2.x

The options that I have after a lot of research are:

 

1. GTX 1060 zotac

2. GTX 1070 EVGA 40% more expensive than 1060

3. GTX 1070 Asus 55% more expensive than 1060

I upgraded to an ASUS 1070 a week ago in preparation for 2.5. Works fine, no issues. Can't speak to their customer service.

from my own experience if something is wrong with hardware, turn to store you bought products from. and if something is terribly wrong, it happens in a few weeks, so warranty from the store is still valid.

Asus has two versions for DUAL, one with and one without OC.

 

Why that? It would be made with components of better quality than the other?

 

Near here has normal version for a good price, can I get it, or try to find DUAL OC?

The faster one "might" have more Phases for power supply to the card and likely have a more potent cooling along with a higher set PowerTarget, defined in GPU-card's Bios.

 

Both may overclock just as good....some of the diff is marketing, some of it real hardware differences.

Ok, I bought Asus Dual 1070 normal (without OC).

 

And, a SSD :music_whistling: I squeezed the last money from my wallet. The upgrade of the motherboard, CPU and RAM will have to wait more now. :disgust:

Well done. Glad you managed to squeeze an SSD in there. Suggest that you put your OS Windows on the SSD plus important apps/games.

I currently run my 980GTX on a stock-clocked i7-920 / Asus P6T6-WS-Rev with only 6GB RAM

and I can fly real good as long as it is OFFLINE and no big sceanrios, enuff to bridge the gap.

 

Leave the CPU Killers on low and you are fine, I get up to 100+ fps on mostly HIGH but some turned down on 1440p. Not all in DCS is CPU filling or limited per se, you can choose with the scenario on how much load you squeeze on such an old CPU like ours.

 

With my former i7-2600k at 4.8 I had no that much more eye candy tbh...it's a high price you pay for a few sliders going right and little reward if there werent all those objects in MP that flood small CPU and RAM as I now had to find out. Time for my 6700k to arrive...

This is what I found in particular with either multiplayer or lot's of activity going on when I had only 6GB of RAM and my i7-950 at stock 3.06Ghz. Doubling the RAM and overclocking by 1.2Ghz did yield decent improvement. But sadly now I feel my old X58 rig is getting long in the tooth. Plus I think the Nvidia GTX1070 is getting tired of waiting on the old CPU it has to work with.

It's good certainly compared to stock 3.06 but it just can't satisfy the demands of the GTX1070 from what I have read. Also this rig has been ticking over for well over 5 years and the motherboard features or lack of is starting to show it's age. Even my wife has given me the green light to upgrade. So it is near time to put this rig out to pasture.

What matters is STP, single thread performance.

 

if you had a 4-core CPU doing 3500 passmark STP's you'd be king of DCS :)

 

I am unsure if any system not on LN2 has well passed the 3k mark yet.
