Veritech Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Hey guys, I'm planning my new rig and I have a hard time deciding between a Predator 4k monitor with an average refresh rate (60) and a Predator 2k with a superior refresh speed. One gives me video quality and the other one high refresh rate, which one would you recomend? I'm in between these two Acer Predator monitors: - Acer Predator XB271HKBMIPRZ 27″ G-SYNC 4K - Acer Predator XB270HU bprz 27″ WQHD IPS G-SYNC A third option, more expensive, would be an extra wide-angle monitor, with a compromise between refresh rate and resolution: - Acer-Predator Z35 G Sync 144 Your opinion on this would be highly appreciated! :) :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Alis Aquilae Aut Pax Aut Bellum" Veritech's DCS YouTube Channel
razo+r Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 first question for you: What GPU do you have? Maybe it will be able to handle it, maybe not
Veritech Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 I¡ll be getting a Gigabyte GeForce 1080 Extreme Water Cooled. I've read the reviews of each monitor, but I would like to know which one is the best, "oprationally" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Alis Aquilae Aut Pax Aut Bellum" Veritech's DCS YouTube Channel
Rangi Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 My personal opinion is that a 27" monitor is too small for 4k and barely big enough for whqd. PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.
Veritech Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Would you go for an Acer Predator X34? Why would you think 27 is too small for a 4k? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Alis Aquilae Aut Pax Aut Bellum" Veritech's DCS YouTube Channel
metzger Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 My opinion 27 is way too small for dcs, it kills the imerssion and you have to stare at it at very close range. I used 32 and it was fine but 40 would be good. Think about oculus rift if you are looking only for dcs or other sims, it is a huge gamechanger. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Veritech Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 I thought about VR but I'm waiting for the second generatipn... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Alis Aquilae Aut Pax Aut Bellum" Veritech's DCS YouTube Channel
metzger Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Even current generation is way better than flat monitor. Even big one, not speaking about anything less than 32 inch. I would suggest you to try it if you can before spending your money on monitors. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hansangb Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 yeah, if you get a chance, give VR a chance. I used to have a triple monitor setup. I would never ever go back. Just something to consider. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Lt.Stich Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Tried Oculus Rift CV1 for 1 week, then has returned it and bought 4k Benq 32 inch Monitor. So far, in my opinion, this is the best setup for DCS and other games. I think oculus, in current state, only for the fly but not for the combat (resolution, performance, sickness). 32 inch works great with great visual picture and great targets visibility. Can advise 32 inch 4k monitor. My has great refresh rate without visible ghosting or lags, more than enough for casual player and DCS pilots.
Abburo Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 I have 28" 4K G-Sync monitor - 60HZ - with GTX1080. The refresh rate of the monitor will not be exceeded if you are running in ULTRA details and more than HIGH range view. So, this could become an option. Image quality in 4K is amazing and I hardly trade it for faster FPSs... applicable not only for DCS but for other games too (ARMA3 looks amazing too). So, if you are a hardcore player then you have to choose always lower resolutions and WQHD have its own advantages: wider screen and better FPS. Now, you have to choose :) Romanian Community for DCS World HW Specs: AMD 7900X, 64GB RAM, RTX 4090, HOTAS Virpil, MFG, CLS-E, custom
Veritech Posted November 1, 2016 Author Posted November 1, 2016 I think iIll go for a 2k WQHD with 100 refresh... and wait patiently til 2nd gen VR is out [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Alis Aquilae Aut Pax Aut Bellum" Veritech's DCS YouTube Channel
metzger Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Combat visibility is better on monitor only due to zooming and trackir but both of them are sort of cheating. :) For sickness you need time to get your vr "legs" no metter the vr generation.
