Conure Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Hello all, I bought a Warthog recently for DCS A10 (surprise surprise..) and I really like it, but I am a bit concerned. I've read a lot about stiction etc but wanted to know if the following is normal. When I move the stick, say I move it 50% to its limit, when I stop, and start moving it again, it kind of jerks and is hard to move. If I don't stop moving it's smooth all the way through. I suspect this is related to the spring but is it normal, or do I have a defective stick? If so I will return it. Thanks, Conure Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
Rangi Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Sounds like classic warthog stiction, I would recommend opening her up and applying some proper grease or better yet getting or making an extension. PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.
Gladman Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Buy a 10cm extension from Sahaj or MFG and your problem will be gone. If you have the room for it, it'll save you opening it up. i9 9900K @ 5.1Ghz - ASUS Maximus Hero XI - 32GB 4266 DDR4 RAM - ASUS RTX 2080Ti - 1 TB NVME - NZXT Kraken 62 Watercooling System - Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas (Virpil Base) - MFG Crosswind Pedals - Pimax 5K+ VFA-25 Fist Of The Fleet [sigpic]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic99190_2.gif[/sigpic] Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1 | Discord
Conure Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Hmm cheers guys. I think I'll return it and go with the CH figherstick and throttle instead. A shame as the Warthog is beautiful, but I'll never enjoy it like this and I have no place to put if it I add a mount. Sporg Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 You could try to dismantle it, sand it gently where it sticks and re-grease it with a good grease. I did that, and it made a lot of difference. There are some good threads here with advise on how to do it. The Warthog is an amazing stick and worth the small amount of effort required to fix the stiction. If you just bought it, Thrustmaster might let you RMA it for a new one, and if not it's not that hard to fix.

Weegie Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQOOoPdmRl8&spfreload=10 This is a great video on what to do to dis-assemble and grease it up (I don't know how to embed a video) I used a Tamiya modelling grease (for models with motors and nylon gears) that I got on advice from Amazon. That is UK but I'm sure it will be available in the US. One tube is more than sufficient. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001Q1AW64/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I've had that grease in for over a year now and the stick is still great Remove all the original grease it's sticky and messy and does not work very well. Alcohol will help remove the old stuff. There is still a tiny little bit of stiction compared to my VKB but greasing it up and then getting an extension is defo the way to go, the difference is night and day
Fab Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 There is a lot of WH fanboys out there.... I have a X45, X52, X55 and WH.... The WH outside is a beauty, realy is... But inside !!! Man, its one of the top worst joysticks on market. I had to sand it down, and applay new grease, and buy an extension, and still I prefer my Saitek joysticks. As long as you "only" do combat it might be ok, but try to do aerobatic formation with it !!!! I am outterly disapointet, I should never have bought it, but there was so much htpe around it, that I did.... Return it, do try to mod it... There are some very good joysticks on the markes, special on the USSR market...
