Hawkeye60 Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I know this is not modeled in the sim but is this being considered in Normandy? I also know this is a long shot! Along those lines, is there any way to simulate dropping naval mines in the current version? Or are these like torpedo's? Thanks. gospadin Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 HoggitDev is trying to do a dropable Mine for their A-4E You can drop them, but they really only can be modeled as bombs right now. Potentially you could script a mission such that a boat near the dropped bomb could be made to explode, but nothing is automated. Potentially you could script a mission such that a boat near the dropped bomb could be made to explode, but nothing is automated. This leads to another question. Can you drop a bomb, but delay the explosion? To explain, I would like to target a ship. I delay the bomb from exploding for 5 minutes after it hits the water. I drop some ordnance in the ships path. As the ship passes the bomb they explode. This would "simulate" a mine. The same effect could be used on the ground. I suspect the bomb will explode upon hitting the water as the ocean is not modeled like real water. If you can delay the explosion, would the bomb "bounce" on the water? The same problem effects making of torpedo's. I know this is a shot in the dark but thought I would ask the guru's of DCS. Thanks "Yeah, and though I work in the valley of Death, I will fear no Evil. Pikey Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 you could probably obtain the coordinates it landed then use that to make an explosion later. Elements of the range scripts can be used. But thats just one problem, you need the ordanance which requires a lot more painful modelling and integration with whatever platform you want. It's a lot of hacky workarounds and im not even sure if we have an aircraft that has the relevant optional ordanance so the motivaiton for someone making it might be small. ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *

I really did not think this was possible but one never knows what some wizard has come up with. Lets hope for more weapons with Normandy. Anyone know if there is a list of new weapons for WW2? Exactly, there are two options: 1) Everything would need to be handled by the mission scripting, and not specifically by the airplane or weapon itself. 2) Wait for ED to develop new weapon code and capabilities, to allow something like a mine to continue to exist underwater until a ship of the proper tonnage and draft got close enough. We are planning to model a few of them (from a 3D/visual perspective) but obviously coding new behaviors isn't up to us. --gos My liveries, mods, and missions for DCS:World M-2000C English Cockpit | Extra Beacons Mod | Nav Kneeboard | Community A-4E

Lets hope for some news about what is included in Normandy. Thanks for the replies. If I find anything out about new weapons and/or behavior, I will post info.
