TBear Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 (edited) I think that actually we are all new with the Spit..so i guess we still have to let some time pass ;) Btw...in those few hours i'm using the Spit I can humbly say: In a dogfight against a 109k never go vertical and stay in a speed window between 230 and 260 mph. Actually everytime i stay under 220 mph i break the engine...doesnt matter how much RPMs i keep...:/ Anyway i'm wayting for some WWII Guru Pilot's advice :) Edited December 17, 2016 by TBear Mission designer with...drumroll.... Theskyline35 Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Yeah the engine is easy to break, after multiple issue I always stay at 2800rpm and +12/+16 boost, and when I need power I do a little push 3000rpm full boost for few seconds and then came back to my "combat safe engine mode" to not break it. Advices concerning this would be nice [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My Youtube Channel Ryzen 2600 -- GTX980 4Go -- 16Go RAM 3200Mhz -- TM Warthog + Rudder Pedals -- HomeMade trackIR
razo+r Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 for the engine, there are tables in the manual that tell you how long in what config you can fly
Hiromachi Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 That's theory. In practice this window can be much shorter if you dogfight at lower speeds, I found myself flying at 2750-2800 RPM / + 8 lbs even in dogfights just to keep that oil far from exceeding limits as in turns at speeds between 220-280 mph oil temperature tends to raise rapidly. I was thinking if there is an option to mess with radiator and keep it open all the time. Zilch Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 Yep, biggest challenge with the Spit has been keeping the engine intact... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Zilch79's YouTube Channel:
