last night I've had my first online kill with a 530D shot from a range exceeding maximum

I never tested this before, but it really worked yesterday

how's that possible ? or a bug ?

sorry, again no track or tacview

Nothing to do with 530D , all missiles will give you an alert when the your target is within the kill range. it doesn't 'predict' when that happens.

if a target is closing in, you can fire ahead of optimal range and hope the target wont turn around and that it will keep flying towards you until range is within what the missile can hit.

I wasn't refering to an optimum range (when there's TIR in the hud)

It's about max range

max range in the hud was 18nm, I've launched from 20nm at maneuvering target (Su-27)

alt was ~ 13.000ft, I was burning max throttle @ 1.12M, don't know about the target (I think 0.9M)

Again , conditions changed after you launched , maybe he reduced altitude (the missile doesn't have to climb) maybe he reduced speed (no need to chase as long at a cold target) etc.

anyway its not a bug and not unique to the 530D

conditions changed after you launched

not much (he later mentioned, that he hadn't noticed launch warning from RWR, because of the noise around him)

maybe he reduced altitude (the missile doesn't have to climb)

yeah, may be, just a bit

maybe he reduced speed (no need to chase as long at a cold target) etc.

we were head on

anyway its not a bug and not unique to the 530D

that's why it's not in the bug section

so it's possible to shoot 530's from any range ?

I have had one or two kills with the 530 from 40000ft and over Mach 1 from over 20nm before. The higher and faster you are the more of a sling shot the missile gets to begin with, not sure if the air density is modeled accurately in DCS but in real life that would have an impact too.

Equally though similar kills with other modules so as T_A said nothing unusual. This is one of those occasions where tacview would really help.

well, absolute distance is not the case

22nm is max range @ 40k feet at 1M+, I've killed targets at this range, and alt before

but here I'm talking about exceeding max range

turns out there are no limitations, I can fire 530D even over maximum range

Oh I see, so you are questioning launch authorisation of the aircrafts systems? As in the aircraft will allow you to launch even when the range exceeds the max range of the missile where as some other aircraft would not allow you to release?

yeah-yeah, that's what I'm asking

and what surprised me the most - the missile did hit a fast agile target (though not really maneuvering), launched from over the max range

That´s probably because the top bar is not "max range"...Raero is typically not shown in DLZs so, depending on launch conditions, the missile can make a couple extra km...especially if the target is head on and not going defensive.

A bunch of weapons can be launched sooner then "max range", which is really only optimum range with a higher probability of kill. NEZ is supposedly a range where the pk is highest, doesn´t mean it will hit either.

I use this on the SU-25T alot, most of it´s laser guided weaponry can be launched 2 or 3 or more km earlier then indicated...depends on your altitude and speed.

GCI: "Control to SEAD: Enemy SAM site 190 for 30, cleared to engage"

Striker: "Copy, say Altitude?"

GCI: "....Deck....it´s a SAM site..."

Striker: "Oh...."

Fighter: "Yeah, those pesky russian build, baloon based SAMs."

oh, good to know, thanks

yeah, me too. S-25L can actually fly 10km, not 6 as it's shown in the hud - almost twice more !

This 530D hits targets at 30nm, it's only that RB have put a self destruct timer after 45sec that this missile doesn't push past +35nm such is its energy.

So if it has that long range why is it being Gimped? Please dont say the Fairness Fairy

Maybe i misread, or others have not communicated clearly but why is the missile limited to a 45 second flight time? Is it just due to the modeling in DCS and its the only way to get the Ordinance within its real operating range?

Because the missiles over performs and this is their way of limiting the range.

You really don't like the 2000 don't you ? If you have a problem with how the missile perform, please fill a bug report with the relevant data.

This limit comes from the battery life time, when the battery has no more power (45 seconds) the missile self destruct.

Thank you for the answer, in light of this im excited to test some nice semi long range shots now. Sorry for being behind the times been away for work.

Since RAZBAM introduced their own missiles the 530D has disproportionately more range than its comparable competitiors. Are the original ED iterations even still in the game?

Zeus states here that the real 530D has a range of 40km at and above 40,000ft. He also stated that EDs version performed well but it seems due to complaints RB made their own which now strangely has a 60km range. Not to mention a 45 sec battery time to negate the lack of drag this new missile has which should possibly be more like 60sec akin to older generation missile batteries.

Seems to me RB wanted to make this missile the fastest and most chaff resistant SARH missile in DCS regardless of figures to make it more competitive with FC3 aircraft.

This is not a bug but a feature.
