Schwarzfeld
How do You know if initial version was more realistic or not ;) ? IF there was "initial version", 'cause I've just compared 1.5.5 with 1.5.6 / 2.0.5 ("Free flight" missions) and I don't see noticeable differences, which makes me believe there were no big changes (if any) made in beyond critical AoA regimes. In 260-280 mph left turns, both versions snap roll immediately between 5 and 6 G, in right turns they sometimes do, sometimes don't. In fully developed power-off left spins both versions recover with controls centered after about two turns, in right spins the 1.5.5 recovers after about two-three, while 2.0.5 was more difficult, as it didn't recover at all in a few attempts I made (I had to use the left rudder eventually). Not sure about ground handling, as I desperately try not to impose lateral accelerations. Takeoffs and landings are still equally tricky as before. Your description doesn't comply with my observations :D. Are You sure You didn't forget to click off auto-rudder in special options after installing the Spit in 2.0? Yeah I disabled auto rudder and takeoff assist, it just doesnt feel the same....
bart
I can't say I have noticed any major difference in the flight model, subtle differences maybe. But I have noticed if after I've started the engine and I let her idle with the throttle closed the engine coughs and splutters to a stop. More noticeable on the higher altitude airfields, so maybe the slight difference in handling is caused by taking off at a higher alt above sea level. One runway I took off from the altimeter was reading 6500ft on the apron. One of the smaller airfields off to the west side of the map. My money is it's an altitude thing causing this, and if so hats off to ED and Yo-Yo for the incredible detail in the Spitfire module. Another theory is the module was extensively tested in caucasus and FM tweaked accordingly, now she's in Nevada at a higher alt it's thrown in some unexpected bugs with the FM? klem
Where did ED say they had changed the Spit FM? All they have done is make it a available in 2.05 NTTR; klem 56 RAF 'Firebirds' ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F mobo, i7 8086A @ 5.0 GHz with Corsair H115i watercooling, Gigabyte 2080Ti GAMING OC 11Gb GPU , 32Gb DDR4 RAM, 500Gb and 256Gb SSD SATA III 6Gb/s + 2TB , Pimax 8k Plus VR, TM Warthog Throttle, TM F18 Grip on Virpil WarBRD base, Windows 10 Home 64bit
DieHard
I got her into a spin, no problem, just set yourself up to enter the spin. She recovers just fine as to typical stall recovery. Ditto as to Message #26 "Yeah I disabled auto rudder and takeoff assist, it just doesnt feel the same.... Schwarzfeld
Seems odd to have to "set yourself up for a spin" in a Spitfire, my buddy's grandfather flew spits in WWII (he was Canadian) and the way he described it, the plane would enter a snap roll if you looked at it funny... ED Team NineLine Posted February 7, 2017 ED Team Share Posted February 7, 2017 Well, I genuinely enjoyed taking the spit for a spin around NTTR but... this flight model update has me pretty depressed. I feel like it was tweaked to satisfy whining customers, not to stick with realism... the plane almost never enters a snap roll no matter what you do, stalls and recovers all on its own like a Cessna, and now when doing takeoff/landing it allows absurd amounts of differential load (L-R main gear) in terms of lateral acceleration without going up on two wheels. Heck I even applied differential braking immediately after touchdown when landing too fast yesterday and it straightened right out like a... Cessna. Kind of heartbreaking after the initial FM's difficult realism :( Remember NTTR is at a different elevation than the Black Sea map, you can generally feel differences in modules because of this. Seems like a common thing when a new module hits NTTR that people have been using a lot in the BS map. Schwarzfeld
True that. I have no flight time in real aircraft at anything more than 30ft above sea level, so... perhaps I'm totally off base here
