imacken Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I'm embarrassed to ask this question, but.... I bought the Basic Training Campaign, and it starts off with me being dropped off at Batumi airport with lots of dialogue, finishing with a request to go to the briefing room (or something like that) to start mission 1. My question is, how do I do that? I've pressed every key/joystick button I can find, but no joy. 14_Punch Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 All I had to do was let'em stop yapping...check your score (100%). Hit Quit and it should advance. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
imacken Posted January 17, 2017 Author Posted January 17, 2017 Thanks for that. Yes, somehow, I moved on, but it wasn't at all clear why! Sat for ages after the guy finished talking, then hit escape, then quit. That seemed to bring up a score sheet, with no obvious way of progressing. So, I quit from it, went back in, and then I moved onto the startup mission. Not at all clear! metzger Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I guess you are just not familiar how missions and campaigns work in dcs.. When I started dcs I was also confused how to accomplish missions but in time you get used to it. I just completed basic training qualifications and did not have any issues knowing that I have to hit escape and quit after the introduction ended. Bersagliere81 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I am at mission 6 or 7, just to let you know there are some missions (if not all) where you are given the possibility by an "instructor" to practice first what you need to be required for. As soon as you quit that pre mission, you get the mission itself for the qualification. The most problematic was the firsf one (actually 2nd if you consider the arrival) where I had to restart even the practice itself | A-10C | MiG-21bis | Hawk T1.A | L-39 Albatros | F-5E | Ka-50 | Mi-8 | NTTR | CA | SU27 | M2000C | F-86F | AV-8B | F/A-18C | Mig 15 | Mig 19| Specs Intel i7-9700k msi GTX 2060 Gaming Z msi Z390 Gaming PLUS 16gb RAM Hotas Warthog
imacken Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 Thanks a lot guys for the advice. I am finding this very confusing. Now that I know about the 'Quit' thing, I am now stuck again! After I have completed the first mission, i.e. cold start, I can't see how to end that! I do everything OK, all lights off and ready to go, but I again can't see how to end this. Now, if I hit 'quit', I just fail the mission and when I restart, I have to do it all over again, and still I can't see how to end this. Any further help appreciated! NeilWillis Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 You can buy it by accessing your module manager in DCS World, and clicking on the campaigns tab. Alternatively, just go to the ED webpage, and clicking on the campaigns section under products.
imacken Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 I'm becoming really frustrated with this. OK, so after doing the startup ok, and after waiting for a few minutes, I thought that in order to move on, I should maybe contact Batumi ATC to request taxi. Got permission, but the instructor still didn't say anything about whether the startup was OK or not. So I just started taxiing, went to the runway, and then got some speech about the startup checked ok, and that I should now follow the instructor. I then had to move the plane back to where I was, follow the guy around the airbase and then ended up back at our starting point. Then, I was told to do the shutdown procedure, and after what seemed to be about 30 seconds, I was told I had failed because I hadn't switched off the CMSP!!!! After having to wait several minutes at various points in this mission for something to happen, I couldn't believe that so little time was allowed for shutdown. I feel like giving up on this. So frustrating. There must be an easier way! imacken Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 It's getting worse! I tried again, did the startup OK, waited and waited and waited, and eventually the 'instructor' chirped up to say the startup was ok. So, then I did the whole taxiing routine, got the thumbs up for that, parked and then completed the shutdown process. Instructor said all was OK and that I passed but that another try or two would give me a perfect assessment. So, I 'quit' and looked forward to doing mission 2 a bit later. Well, eh, no! I am back where I started, i.e. having to do this first mission again! I just cannot believe how frustrating this is. I must be doing something wrong here. Sabre-TLA Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Sorry you are having problems with the missions. Make sure your DCS install is patched to the latest version. If you still have issues try re-installing the campaign module. You can compare how each mission should play to Recon Stewarts videos (they haven't changed much since moving to the ED Store): Also you should try the practice missions first which you can access by the instructions in this post. Email us at mapleflagmissions@gmail.com if you continue to have issues. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates

Read my previous post. In the startup mission you will find this difference. The practice mission you are told what to do step by step. Then you "quit" and redo the same mission as qualification. In the e qualification mission mission you have 15 minutes to do the startul by yourself, then taxi and so on. All missions should be this way. If you read carefully the briefing, you will notice if you have the practice or the qualification itself | A-10C | MiG-21bis | Hawk T1.A | L-39 Albatros | F-5E | Ka-50 | Mi-8 | NTTR | CA | SU27 | M2000C | F-86F | AV-8B | F/A-18C | Mig 15 | Mig 19| Specs Intel i7-9700k msi GTX 2060 Gaming Z msi Z390 Gaming PLUS 16gb RAM Hotas Warthog
imacken Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 (edited) Thanks for all your help. No, I wasn't doing the practice mission. I wasn't even aware of them until you mentioned them here. It isn't the actual A10C procedures I'm having problems with, its the mission structure I can't get my head around. I know it's probably my fault, but here are a few observations: 1) I was stuck for some time after being dropped at Batumi. There was nothing I could see in the docs to suggest that one has to hit Escape and then Quit to progress further. 2) In the startup phase, there is no indication anywhere I could see to tell the user that he needs to wait for the full 15 minutes before the instructor kicks in, does the check and then says 'follow me'. I completed the startup procedure several times and didn't know what to do next! 3) I succeeded with the startup, the taxiing and the shutdown according to the instructor, but yet when I returned later, I was back having to do mission 1 again. I know it's probably my fault, but I feel some very basic instructions would be helpful. In a readme file, maybe? Maybe it's there already! Not sure if I can get your point, but reading this I am just going to say what I have already stated. Please let me try to answer you in this way one last time 1)ok now you know that 2)you get no indication of that because there's no timer at all. You do when you are doing the qualification mission, after you complete the practice mission. Because in the practice mission it is irrilevant, you need to follow step by step what the instructor says 3)correct. Every "mission" you do, you actually do it two times. First is practice, second is qualification itself. For the second mission as an example (counting the Batumi), the first time you do it it is the step by step, then you redo it again and being told you have 15 minutes Try to see it this way, missions are ▪arrival ▪2-1 ▪2-2 ▪3-1 ▪3-2 And so on... where "-1" is the practice, "-2" is the qualification. And in the qualifications you are told by the instructor (or briefings, read it carefully) what are the parameters required, such as time, speed.. rickberry49 Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 The idea of this training mission is great... but having said that the implementation leaves some improvement needed. As a newbie I also found it extremely frustrating and not really consistent. Would also like to see the beginning and the ending, on the first mission, separated so a new user can practice the shutdown process without having to go through the entire Mission if he fails the ending.
imacken Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 The idea of this training mission is great... but having said that the implementation leaves some improvement needed. As a newbie I also found it extremely frustrating and not really consistent. Would also like to see the beginning and the ending, on the first mission, separated so a new user can practice the shutdown process without having to go through the entire Mission if he fails the ending. I agree that this campaign is very awkward for the new user. What I have found though, is that once a few basic facts are understood, that it is very enjoyable, but still unforgiving! The shutdown process is frustrating at first, but if you make a list from Chuck's excellent A-10C guide on a piece of paper it is not that hard, and you will soon memorise it. What I didn't grasp at first was the there is a 'training' mission before the 'qualifying' mission. Once I realised that, life was easier. Also, although it seems clear now, I didn't know what was meant by 'meet me back at Batumi for your next mission'. That was a case of hitting escape, quitting and going back in. There are some irritations still, for example, in the advanced manoeuvres mission, there is one where the instructor talks about going near the ground and pulling up, but you get immediately failed going below the hard deck! Another example is in mission 3 Traffic Pattern, the 'pattern altitude' is stated as 2500 in the notes, whereas I'm sure it's 2000 in the mission. Still, despite the frustrations, I'm having fun with this! Also the instructor seems to disappear and never comes back I have to end the mission. I checked the A-10C in 2.0 Nevada and the ILS does not work, it is also at 108.95 and cannot be changed.
