Gault05 Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 As the minimum specs for DCS are concerned, I'm currently working on getting the necessary parts as stated on my sig. But can the Studio 540 be even upgraded for the task, let alone upgrade even more, or am I to look into getting another computer suitable for DCS?:helpsmilie: Case:NZXT S340 Mid Tower;Motherboard:MSi B550 Pro Series ATX;CPU:AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-core with Wraith Stealth Cooler;Memory:Gigastone 64GB;Hard Drive:Barracuda 2TB Hard Drive; Sound:Asus Xonar DGX; Power:Corsair RMe 750w PSU; GPU: MSI GeForce Ventus 12GB w/OC Modules: Flaming Cliffs 2024, P-51D, Combined Arms, Black Shark 3, A-10C/2, WW2 Assets, F/A-18C, F-16C Viper, AH-64D, Supercarrier, China Assets Pack, Maps: Persian Gulf, Syria, Marianas, Sinai
BitMaster Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I am afraid there is no real way to get your PC ready for DCS. Your socket ( 775 ) for the CPU is too old, there is no upgrade path available anymore. The Graphicscard is way too old. RAM is too little and you have limited options to get bigger modules on DDR2, they are avaialable but rare and costly and you need a mobo with 4 slots to get to 8GB. You can do this as a makeshift solution but dont expect much, maybe it wont even work, but its the only thing I could think of that you could do. Get to 8GB, add another budget card but of modern age with 4GB Memory or more ( 970GTX, RX470/480, 1050Ti etc.. ), hope it runs on your board and give it a try. Sryan Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 The only marginal upgrade I can imagine is look on ebay for a refurbished QX6700, QX6800, QX6850 or a Pentium E6700. They aren't very expensive but still way below the minimum specs for DCS Check my F-15C guide

They aren't very expensive but still way below the minimum specs for DCS The operative word here is 'marginal'. The gain to be had would be so minimal, with respect to DCS, that it would not be worth the time and trouble to swap the chip. trigen Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) I happen to have a AMD 270x 4gb with a i7 950 (no cooler) + 6gb corsair xmp 1333 ddr3 ram and GAx58 ud3r to sell for 120$ + shipping. Shipping from Norway is a bit steep at 40ish though But for 160$ its still a very good deal. Had no issues running single screen DCS on that. Selling as ive upgraded mine to VR ready Edited February 12, 2017 by trigen 1080 ti, i7700k 5ghz, 16gb 3600 cl14 ddr4 oc

Sorry for the sobering news So basically, it's a lost cause either way. My PC won't be able to handle the game's constant updating due to poor power, and the latter option seems impossible to reach, considering the price ranges for even 4GB RAM is expensive af today(even on Amazon, it's near $50.00 for one stick of RAM). Sucks to know this, because I was just getting started on getting parts for getting back to DCS. Only thing I got so far was a 650W Power Supply to replace my old one, and I'm trying to get a 2GB card to meet min. specs, and 8GB is all I can do for RAM. *sigh*:( Case:NZXT S340 Mid Tower;Motherboard:MSi B550 Pro Series ATX;CPU:AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-core with Wraith Stealth Cooler;Memory:Gigastone 64GB;Hard Drive:Barracuda 2TB Hard Drive; Sound:Asus Xonar DGX; Power:Corsair RMe 750w PSU; GPU: MSI GeForce Ventus 12GB w/OC Modules: Flaming Cliffs 2024, P-51D, Combined Arms, Black Shark 3, A-10C/2, WW2 Assets, F/A-18C, F-16C Viper, AH-64D, Supercarrier, China Assets Pack, Maps: Persian Gulf, Syria, Marianas, Sinai
