Your CPU is more than powerful enough to run DCS at an acceptable frame rate, if you pair it up with a good GFX card and some decent RAM. DCS is very reliant on single-thread performance, and basically the raw Ghz speed of your CPU. If you are not running an overclock, a good way to improve performance in DCS is to do just that, and pair up your CPU with a good cooler. There have been more than a few reports of buyers remorse where people upgraded their CPUs only to discover their performance was almost unchanged. Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

In my opninion it makes no sense yet. Gpu is a different story. I am waiting for the GTX 1080ti, but that is just for VR not for 2d monitor. Fps 180 on max settings now... Yeah you're right guys, my GPU is fine (980Ti) and when it's time to upgrade that it will be time for a new computer. It's impatience really as although performance with DCS is better than it's ever been you get the feeling that it's only some optimization away from being perfect. I'm not really one who worries about the resolution. For me it's great except for the slight ghosting effects when you turn your head, and of course those annoying grey flashes I mention on an hourly basis but I'm almost certain that these things can and will be fixed as these problems vary in severity from beta to beta... just gotta wait it out! ------------ 3080Ti, i5- 13600k 32GB VIVE index, VKB peddals, HOTAS VPC MONGOOSE, WARTHOG throttle, BKicker,

It was advised in a previous thread to skip the 1080 if you have a 980ti, and wait for the 1080ti (this is wise advise). I knew I would get some performance going from such an old processor to one that just came out, but it was way more than I expected. I picked up the 7700k. The speed (mine is running at 5ghz, its a good chip, but almost all of them easily run at 4.8 ) plus the ram speed increase (DDR4 @ 3600) really make a difference in DCS / VR. Before I would drop below 45fps regularly, now I'm at 45 or above. I felt it immediately upon loading in and looking around a mission I have flown before several times. Interesting so you would advise I go for it? That is the one I had my eye on. How much did the 7700 run you? I can get em for around 200 English pounds but I would expect a significant performance increase for that and can't help thinking that something like DCS especially giving that I am certain it will undergo a lot of tweaking and optimization probably will in the end not see that much gains from it. One things for sure with the advent of VR my next PC will be a 'twice as expensive than my last one' monster, but I think I'll wait for the GPU that comes after the 1080 Ti. I don't regret getting VR but I do think it's wise to wait for the next gen headsets and GPU's if you can control yourself. I mean I'm glad to be one of the first adopters but it's just running slightly and tantalizingly behind the present day tech at the moment. Don't think an i7-700 is likely to remedy that but I do get the feeling my CPU could be better. wormeaten Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 With i7 you wil not get much because DCS is not supporting muti cores. It is working on 2 cores so better choice will be i5 and diference in price invest in better GPU od SSD.

I have been able to turn up some settings with the new CPU.
