Sgt_Cyanide Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I was trying the Radar Relase Mode with the M/71 Bomb low-drag, but I can't get a hit near my targets. Flight altitude was 400 meters. No wind or bad weather. 1. I set up the QFE correctly and I have fresh up-to-date nav system. 2. Switch the weapon selector to RR and the master mode to ANF. 3. Turn the Radar to mode 1. 4. If a saw the ground targets on the rader -> trigger unsafe. 5. When the target passed the 3km mark, I press and hold the weapon release button. 6. Bombs are impacting about 1-2 km behind my targets. Whats wrong with this procedure? Holding the trigger when target passes the cross (picture in attachment).

Looks like its the sequencing, at point 5, which is point 3 "f" in the guide sequence.. From Chucks guide page 90; 1. PREPARATION: Gather and set target parameters a) We start our attack run from Waypoint B2 and intend to attack our target, which is located on Waypoint B3. b) Read QFE of Target from Kneeboard (“RSHIFT+K” to open, “[“ and “]” to scroll pages), which is located on Waypoint B3. c) Set altimeter pressure to the QFE of the Target. d) Set Data Selector to TAKT – INPUT e) Press “9” and “B3” (desired waypoint on the target’s position) to set Navigation Waypoint B3 as a Target Point M3 f) Switch the Data Selector back to AKT POS - OUTPUT. 2. PREPARATION: Weapons Setup a) Set Radar Mode selector to Mode A0 (Radar OFF). b) Set Weapon selector to BOMB RR. c) Set Impact Interval selector to 15 meters. 3. EXECUTION: Perform Attack a) Set Master Mode to NAV and fly to Waypoint B2 b) Once you cross Waypoint 2 and the HUD switches from B2 to M3, set Master mode to ANF. c) Set Radar Mode selector to A1 or A2. d) On Radar Screen, steer aircraft to align the cross with target area market with a circle, and set the trigger to UNSAFE by clicking on the stick’s safety cover. e) Fly to the altitude required using your HUD as a reference f) When radar return or target point circle passes the firing range line, drop bombs by pressing and holding continuously the Weapon Release button until the FALLD LAST (STORES RELEASED) light illuminates. g) Evade and pull up with 5 G. h) Set the trigger to SAFE by clicking on the stick’s safety cover. i) Set Master mode to NAV :) https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=182709 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]i7 Haswell @ 4.6Ghz, Z97p, GTX1080, 32GB DDR3, x3SSD, Win7/64, professional. 32" BenQ, TIR 5, Saitek x55 HOTAS. diditopgun Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Hi ! I don't understand the difference between point 5 and 3f... I understand the same... Can you be more precise please ? I did same as Sgt Cyanide but in my case bombs fall too far after the target. I think he means to point out that the OP was not pressing UNSAFE at the right time since UNSAFE is supposed to be done when the targets are at the 3km radar marker since the UNSAFE button marks the point of reference for your radar to track (where the target is). I could be incorrect.
RedeyeStorm Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Hi all, I have been trying to hit a target with RR mode but keep failing misarably. I follow the guidelines as posted before by Accipter but when I take safety off when the cross on the radar hits the nav circle en then press the pickle. Everytime the bombs overshoot the target by roughly 500 meters. I am convinced that I get the procedure right but I believe there is a bug here. A CEP of 500 meters is far to much. Further I noticed that the cross on the radar scope remains on the scope. I flew back to base shut the plane all the way down. After restart the cross remained. RedeyeStorm
Home Fries Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 From how I read everything, once your altitude is set you use the radar and the crosshair like a Norden bombsight, i.e. you wait until the target is below the crosshair and then pickle your bombs. It's not very accurate, but it's better than not being able to bomb at all. Further I noticed that the cross on the radar scope remains on the scope. I flew back to base shut the plane all the way down. After restart the cross remained. I've seen this as well and reported it as a bug. I think the entire RR mode needs fixing, as no RR mode will repeat desired symbology after your first attack. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
RedeyeStorm Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Hey Home Fries. Like your skins by the way. What you describe is exactly what I am doing. But if I put the cross on the circle the bombs overshoot with 500 meters. I have QFE set correctly. The only thing might be the question if you should set RMH or LD. I used RMH.
Home Fries Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 AFAIK, the RMH/LD switch is only for the HUD display and the weapons always use LD (baro altimeter set to QFE). There very well could be a bug, especially if you are consistently off by the same vector. It's just that testing it is a bear due to the bug I reported. EDIT: and thanks for the compliment! -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
