hansangb Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 (edited) I didn't see anyone here discussing this thread. Link to thread is here. Basically, using another PC to host the game and offloading some work to it. Has anyone else tried it yet? I'm getting ready to in about a week or so but I was curious if others have tried it. It seems to have helped Swordfish greatly in playing one of the campaigns (later in the thread) Edited March 2, 2017 by hansangb added link to the thread as well hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Verde Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Interesting concept, can anyone get it going using single pc and two virtual machines?
hansangb Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 Hmm, interesting. I don't see why it wouldn't work, DCS wouldn't know any better. But you'd have to measure the CPU contention and VM overhead. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Purg Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Seems costly given that you have to purchase the modules, terrain and missions you want to use.. twice.
hansangb Posted March 5, 2017 Author Posted March 5, 2017 Just the terrain (NTTR) I believe. But if it helps with maintain 90FPS I guess you can pick it up during one of the sales. I can't test right now, but plan on doing it w/in the next two weeks. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
johnco61 Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 I tried this once and don't see any performance gain at all, it seemed to be no better but with all the hassle of setting it up so I gave up. Perhaps I should have persevered, it will be interesting to see how you get on with it though.
cichlidfan Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 Seems costly given that you have to purchase the modules, terrain and missions you want to use.. twice. Not to mention, a second PC. johnco61 Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 Seems costly given that you have to purchase the modules, terrain and missions you want to use.. twice. You didn't need to purchase them twice!! You have 9 installs when you buy so it doesn't cost any extra!!
Cibit Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I rather think it is 9 activations but there is something to preclude use on more than 1 pc. I may be wrong though:book: i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
Rangi Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Yes, to run on 2 separate machines at the same time you need 2 activations (for NTTR) on 2 separate accounts. Someone tried to do the virtual machine trick but starforce would not allow 2 separate activations on one physical pc even with 2 purchases of NTTR and 2 accounts. PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.
Wolf8312 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I hav 2 PC's but am I right in thinking/hoping that one of them neednt be a particularly good PC? ------------ 3080Ti, i5- 13600k 32GB VIVE index, VKB peddals, HOTAS VPC MONGOOSE, WARTHOG throttle, BKicker,
hansangb Posted March 8, 2017 Author Posted March 8, 2017 Define particularly good! :) I'm hoping to test it with my Surface Book (not Performance Base) It does have SSD and i7-6600 at 2.6GHz and 16GB memory. So not exactly a slacker, but not top of the line either. I hope to test it tomorrow or Saturday. I'm too busy playing with my MPCNC (getting ready to build switch boxes) hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
paddyman Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Has anyone else tested this with VR recently?. Are you seen much improvement in FPS?
