Oculus Debug tool vs. pixel density setting in DCS

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before: I want to adjust the pixel density for my oculus rift for another game using Oculus Debug tool. My question is: how will this affect the pixel density in DCS? An example: say I set the pixel density in Oculus Debug tool to 1.4, and in DCS to 1.6, will the rendered pixel density in DCS be 1.4, or 1.6 or 1.4*1.6? In other words, which takes precedence, Oculus Debug tool or DCS setting, or is it a combination of both?

Thanks!

I would " think" the Oculus setting would override the DCS setting, though certainly not sure on that.

However you can install a user made Tray Tool that will allow you to set the Oculus Pixel Density setting per application. So you could use it for your other game, and continue to use DCS setting. You can also set it to run at Windows startup so it is always set to your preferences.

Just look on the Oculus forums for Oculus Tray Tool by AppollyonVR.

I'm reading about it as I post here...what's your impression so far?

Is it just pixel density or can it give you more controls?

Do you always have it on when you fly?

BTW...just discovered Rift has a microphone hidden in it somewhere!

Just installed this tool. From what I can tell so far it works like a charm. Many thanks!

Most welcome, yes it is an awesome tool. I run my Rift and both sensors through a powered Innatek PCIe USB 3 card, and both the sensors and the Rift power management always go back to "allow sleep" mode on each new boot. I use the Tray Tool to disable that setting for this card on each new boot so I don't have to go into Device Manager each time to change that setting.

From what I see, for the same cost in frame rate the SDK 1.3.2 gives no better no worse results when raising or lowering the Oculus PD than if I did it through DCS VR tab.

There's a few other settings that I haven't read up on. As for performance and graphic enhancement using this tool what am I missing?

The Oculus Tray Tool was a utility developed by a Rift user, and it is available over on the Oculus General Forums. It currently is listed on the first page of the forum. It works through that SDK, but is way more user friendly. The main thing would be ability to set Pixel Density per application/game. You can set it to run on Windows start up, so the settings are in place each session. Now for DCS I use the game's PD settings, but I use the tray tool for some of my other ones.

Nothing really to enhance performance, as far as graphics namely the Pixel Density.

I've also been looking at the sound tool. Have you tried any of these

No, the Oculus Tray Tool. It accesses some of the same info but in easier to use interface, can be set to run at Windows Startup.

Is DCS in surround sound or is it just mono sound? I remember a ways back hearing the planes engines coming from behind me and when a plane did a flyby you could hear it going from left to right. I don't seem to have that anymore.

Do you?

Still works for me (the surround sound) and the rift headphones are equal to my sennheisers.

The tool lets you choose a profile for all your games and you can assign each profile its own settings, so you can have a lower PD for DCS and a higher one for Elite or Warthunder etc:)

I also like the tool swaps between speakers and rift once I start running a VR app
