amalahama Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Just checking, are there plans to make them visible in the radar scope at some point down the road? Yeah, I know the Viggen is not an interdiction a/c, but since it's the only sensor installed, being unable to at least detect town and cities is quite annoying. Regards!

The way the raycaster function works unfortunately means that it does not return a hit from buildings. We'll figure it out eventually. Bullitthead Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 The Viggen radar in the Nevada map works great for spotting towns/buildings. Not sure what the difference is between 1.5 and 2.0 when it comes to the radar functionality but 2.0 allows for towns and smaller areas with a few buildings to be spotted on radar.

I don't have NTTR installed, but I've been told that it's not the case, buildings are still missing from radar scope. It can happen though that what you see is the terrain-type change under towns or cities, but not the buildings themselves. Regards
Bullitthead Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Interesting, I'm not sure what the actual cause is for the radar to pick up towns in 2.0 but the radar definitely has dark radar returns where towns are located. You definitely can not distinguish individual buildings but I was assuming that this was due to the close proximity of the buildings to each other and the radar's resolution. I'll have to do some testing to see if individual buildings can be spotted with the radar. If your primary concern is locating towns/cities though, the radar does achieve this in 2.0 whatever the reason may be.

Well it's not only about locating town/cities, but also to locate buildings around a runway for targeting, for example, or so others many uses that a 70's tech AG radar can have in "terra firma". I hope they eventually find out, it has tactical relevance. Regards
Home Fries Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Concrete stands out like a neon sign even on a non-SAR ground radar, so this would be great for navigation as well as targeting fixed locations. I have a feeling that this is something that needs to be fixed on ED's side of things, since the module's radar needs to be told that the building is present.. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
MBot Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Am I right to assume that bridges, both metal or concrete, should stand out very well against the low reflectivity of water?
Home Fries Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Am I right to assume that bridges, both metal or concrete, should stand out very well against the low reflectivity of water? Yes, assuming both the bridge and the body of water are large enough. Another problem is that even if the bridges provided a radar reflection in-game, some of the bridges on the Caucasus map are merely crossings in-game, and there's no way to tell from looking at the map. That's a separate issue for flight planning, though. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
