sgtmike74 Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 In multiplayer, it seems nearly impossible to hold the sight on a target while running multi-crew. In the manual, it states the system is gyro stabilized, but during multi-crew execution, the sight leaves a lot to be desired. It will want to swing wildly at the slightest motion of the air-frame. Here are my questions, if anyone has some insights. Am I missing a switch somewhere?? Can the Viviane stay stabilized to a point on the ground while moving IRL? Could this be a multiplayer sync issue, if so has it been reported as a bug? Thank you.
sgtmike74 Posted May 21, 2017 Author Posted May 21, 2017 Thanks for the replies. Hopefully they will be able to get it worked out in a future patch.
KeyCat Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 No wonder we had problems on our first multi-crew test flight :/ Any word from the devs regarding this IMO critical issue/bug?
Chump Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 If possible in battle (ha), come to a steady hover and enable hover and slave modes. This seems to settle the camera down. However, it is not exactly ideal under duress or incoming fire. I have found that you can do it manually, but it is very touchy and it always seems to veer at the last minute even if you are trying your hardest to keep her steady without assistance. I am still hopeful that the Gazelle will get some love soon (optimist).
Ramsay Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 (edited) Does hover hold work in multi crew? The helicopter will hold position over a reference point (compensating for any lateral or longitudinal drift). In multi-crew the pilot is responsible for maintaining both collective (height) and anti-torque pedals (direction). AFAIK this is closer to how a real Gazelle 'Auto-hover' works than the SP mode found in DCS that can maintain all 4 axis. Note: This how it worked in ~1.5.4, so I'm not sure how multi-crew is working in 1.5.7 Edited July 28, 2017 by Ramsay i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
Esac_mirmidon Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 (edited) If the pilot must keep collective ( height ) and pedals ( yaw ) this is not an autohover at all. How can an autohover must have this name if the pilot must keep the altitude manually? This could be auto pitch and autoroll but not autohover at all. Chump Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 The pilot must maintain height manually when hover mode is engaged. It is still possible to slave the yaw to the camera so that the pilot does not need to operate the pedals during a hover. The auto-collective, as in single player, does not work in multiplayer.
Esac_mirmidon Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 This could be true ingame but in real life if the helicopter has an Autohover AFCS mode but the pilot must keep the altitude using the colective manually, this is not an Autohover. Is another thing. Hover: Keeping the helicopter at the same constant position. Auto: Doing this in auto mode. So..... " You must think in russian.." Holton181 Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 ... Hover: Keeping the helicopter at the same constant position. ... Let's nitpick a little here: "hover" is everything below ETL speed (effective translational lift) and says nothing about direction nor altitude/height. Ever heard of "hover taxi"? So "auto hover" might perfectly well let the pilot control collective and yaw and still be correctly called "auto hover". But yeah, I get you. For the sake of combat, letting the pilot control collective and yaw should actually be considered a feature not a limitation. Being able to promptly drop the helicopter below cover without struggling with the AP might be the difference between coming home for Christmas or brought home by your Creator. An likewise turning quickly to whatever direction your gunner shouts for prompt delivery of firepower. In the Ka-50 you do have altitude hold and heading hold when activating hover hold (both can be turned off), but it's a different story for that beast. You act both as the pilot and gunner and nobody to hold your hand.
