JonTex Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 What purpose does the warning meter serve exactly? Im a bit confused as to how it is incorporated around here and most of all who pushes the warning meter button. I see certain individuals with anywhere from 10% warning to 99%. Id have to assume its bad and if so what are the TOS. -So what purpose does it serve? -Who is in charge of it? (im assuming moderators) -Is it based on TOS and if not is this left to the mod's discretion? And if so why? -Are certain people immune to it? And if so, why? :noexpression: Tex out [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SuperKungFu Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 i think if you get warned up to 100% you will be banned. Its just to act as warning for those who don't follow the rules of the forum. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Alfa Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 What purpose does the warning meter serve exactly? Im a bit confused as to how it is incorporated around here and most of all who pushes the warning meter button. I see certain individuals with anywhere from 10% warning to 99%. Id have to assume its bad and if so what are the TOS. -So what purpose does it serve? Warnings are......well warnings :) . The warning meter serves the purpose of letting a member know where he stands in terms of forum rule violations he has accumulated - a meter read-out of 100% equals a ban. -Who is in charge of it? (im assuming moderators) You assume correctly :) -Is it based on TOS What is "TOS"? ... and if not is this left to the mod's discretion? Yes ...And if so why? Why?......who else should the discretion be left to? :D -Are certain people immune to it? No one except moderators.....I once tried to warn myself just for fun, but the system wouldn't let me :D . EricJ Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 JonTex, most of the time, moderators enforce the "rules" of what can be equated to a private golf or any other club. By using this site, you are legally using a private service, i.e. company forums, which is owned by a private company. So while "here" you are on "private property" and subject to enforcement by the moderators, i.e. the club owners to either be banned, deleted, etc. by not following those rules. Sure you can get into the argument that your own country has certain rights, but the moderators are legally able to restrict you from this site if they deem it necessary. So in essence, this gives the moderators to enforce the forum rules as they see fit. If they feel a post is going to start a flame war, then the moderator has to step in and "punish" you by giving you a warning. It flags you, i.e. gives the moderators more ammunition to tell the community manager, "Hey this person is causing trouble, ban him" and so on. JonTex Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 T.O.S. = Terms of Service And I think it will be a bit longer before I get to my point but have patience Alpha im getting there. I have at least one more question I just dont want to jump to conclusions. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
FVMAD Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 And a question from me: About Rep: when the rep value grows? And what difference from Rep's value and that square with such labels like "is on distinguished way", "will become famous soon enough" and so on...
Alfa Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 T.O.S. = Terms of Service I still don't know what you mean by it :) . And I think it will be a bit longer before I get to my point but have patience Alpha im getting there. LOL.....ok take your time :) . Cheers, - JJ. JJ
Alfa Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 And a question from me: About Rep: when the rep value grows? Reputation value is down to: 1). post count...cannot remember exactly the intervals for which it is awarded. 2). join date....i.e. how long you have been a member of the forum(goes one up for each year) 3). reputation points given by fellow forum members - I think it takes 100 rep points to raise the reputation level by 1. And what difference from Rep's value and that square with such labels like "is on distinguished way", "will become famous soon enough" and so on... The first green square is for #1. & 2, while the second square comes on when #3 kicks in. As for what the associated text means.....your guess is as good as mine :) . Cheers, - JJ. JJ
JonTex Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 In this case Alpha TOS would be: Forum rules & policies We ask member discussions and product feed-back to be conducted in a courteous and mature manor. The following is incompatible with membership of this discussion board and will not tolerated: * Expressions of racism, nationalism, political or religious extremism. * Foul or obscene language. * Disruptive posts that undermine the ability of the moderators to do their job. * Flamewars and personal attacks against fellow forum members and moderators. * Flamewars between online squadrons or accusations of cheating against individual players. * Slander or instigation of "hate campaigns" against Eagle Dynamics, it's employees, forum moderators, testers, 1C, UbiSoft or StarForce. * Advertisements and providing web links to malware, hacks, warez, potentially dangerous sites, or sites containing offensive material. * Repeated off topic posts that serve no positive service to the forum. Threads containing any of the above is subject to immediate closure/deletion. Users found to be responsible or/and having failed to comply with moderators´requests and directions will be warned and may subsequently face banning from further participation on the forum. In short someone violated these rules and Im not about to go tattle telling on them but they recieved no warning at all. And this was in a thread that was very heated and teetering on the brink of being shutdown and deleted so I would have to assume a moderator was moderating it but I also know yall are human and can miss things. I didnt want to jump to conclusions so I gave it the benefit of the doubt that: A.) It could be up to the discretion of a moderator B.)Noooooobody saw it but me C.)Noooooobody cares D.)These two members are special E.)Its not against the rules unless the moderator says it is (hints discretion and interpretation. Yet pretty cut and dry to me) Well all I can say is I hope I get the same special treatment when I mess up in these forums.:D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

JonTex Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 Sounds like your doing that very thing......... Sounds like the trolls have arrived. Off topic as usual and you cant even answer my question. If im telling on someone who is it? What did they do? I mean you obviously have some hard evidence if your accusing me right? ... if not your just trolling around trying to start trouble. Listen JonTex - if you see something that you feel is out of line, then please use the "report post" function of the board.....that's what it is there for :) . Cheers, - JJ. (listening) Alpha .... rgr,10-4. And no I wont report it thats your job. peacout, cheers and all that stuff. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Alfa Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 (listening) Alpha .... rgr,10-4. And no I wont report it thats your job. peacout, cheers and all that stuff. No my job is to take action in case you have a valid complaint - if you don't think yourself that it is worth reporting to moderators, then I am quite frankly not going bother trying to figure out what you are on about. Again, if you have a complaint then use the "report post" function or send us a PM instead of turning it into some kind of public "quess-what-bothers-me" quiz. Subject closed. JJ
