Vitormouraa Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Canadian guy did a good job, that's very impressive. Not sure if here is the best place to talk about this though. SplashOneGaming Discord https://splashonegaming.com
Alphaomega Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 He beat the previous distance record of over 1km... A great sniper for sure, but lucky shot too 1

Emu Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 If we include rifles up to 120mm calibre, the record is still 5.2km. Also, repost. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3175652&postcount=1332
Emu Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) At the distance seems almost impossible, even a bug fart changes the trajectory more than one mile away And the flight time must be around 10s, so you kind of have to guess the target's movements over a full 10s, or hope they stay exactly still, hope the weather remains the same for 10s, hope the wind remains the same over 3.45km for 10s etc. Edited June 24, 2017 by Emu
drPhibes Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 If we include rifles up to 120mm calibre, the record is still 5.2km. Just curious: which 120mm would that be?
Alphaomega Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 This one? L6 Wombat 120mm recoilles rifle It's no more than a portable cannon :D
Emu Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 (edited) Just curious: which 120mm would that be? Royal Ordnance L11A5 - Desert Storm 1991 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenger_1 On 26 February 1991, a Challenger achieved the longest range confirmed kill of the war, destroying an Iraqi tank with an armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot (APFSDS) round fired over a distance of 5,200 metres (3.2 mi)—the longest tank-on-tank kill shot recorded. Vitormouraa Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Both records are impressive. But killing a human with what, .50? from 3.54km away is very impressive. SplashOneGaming Discord https://splashonegaming.com
MiG21bisFishbedL Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 8 seconds for the muzzle report to reach the target. And another 8 seconds for the apology, too! 1 Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!
Emu Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Both records are impressive. But killing a human with what, .50? from 3.54km away is very impressive. Oh for sure, both impressive, but what about a shot from >2km using iron sights with an out-dated K31 rifle with Swiss 7.5x55mm rounds. https://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?p=249107#p249107 1
probad Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 well, military snipers don't get 58 chances to nail one guy. im sure if i had unlimited bullets i too would eventually be able to hit anything the bullet can reach, optics or no. 1
Emu Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 But equally, firing into a crowd of people from long range makes a hit more likely. Even if you don't hit the person you're aiming for, you'll probably hit someone.
Goldsmack Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 (edited) Yeah Canadian Forces back on "top". JTF2 gets pretty hushed so I am not surprised the details are not released, hopefully someday. In fact I am shocked they admitted they where in Iraq. well, military snipers don't get 58 chances to nail one guy. im sure if i had unlimited bullets i too would eventually be able to hit anything the bullet can reach, optics or no. On that point at these distanced it is far from a one shot one kill, I like tho think if it more as accurate suppressing fire. I believe the British chap who held the record before fired 9 times for two targets. Still an incredible feat. Emu Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 On that point at these distanced it is far from a one shot one kill, I like tho think if it more as accurate suppressing fire. I believe the British chap who held the record before fired 9 times for two targets. Still an incredible feat. Indeed, especially with a .338 that's only rated at 1,600m. Accurate calculation at these ranges is a fairy tale. Rob Furlong's kill also took 3 shots. I think in this instance it helped that he was firing on a militant group, so there were several targets together.
