Riverseeker Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Hello, i was thinking about buying the viggen module but i need some infos in order to decide to take it now or later. 1) Speaking of flying the plane: is this aircraft a constant trim-life? Aka trim every time your speed changes? 2) The hud scares me a bit: i've not checked online too much so i know nothing about it. It seems way too much different from what i am used to. For example i love mc2k hud and in general russian planes hud. I hate badly f15 hud just becouse it seems too small compared to the rest of the cockpit. (this i just personal taste! I hate to zoom in the hud when flying, and i need to do it on f15...) 3) How bad is it compressor stall? Can you tell me when it is going to happen? I am not scared about the instrumental complexity of the bird or by the new set of skills i need to acquire in oder to strike on targets, but i am not going to fly a bird running at 700Km/h, at 30 meters from ground keeping to trim up and down :D (not right now at least!) 200m butterflier inside :harhar: MERLO forever
probad Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 there is a bit of manual trimming through the speed envelope but the spak autopilot modes are very easy to use and will manage your trim to maintain the desired attitude/altitude hold at subsonic speeds.
whaaw Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 (edited) 1. Yes it is, trimming is life in the viggen, but you can activate autopilot for a second and he will trim the aircraft for you :) 2. the hud is not bad but get used to flying instrumental in the viggen. theres a good chance that the hud stops working and just go black when do some maneuvers (DCS Bug) i use the hud for landing and weapon deployment not much more. dont forget its a 50 year old plane^^ its very basic but good! 3. i do not get often compressor stalls but when i get it its hardcore, from 5 stalls i can recover 1-2 times the othertimes im going down without getting the engine running again.(ok this is more of a flame out, think i didnt have a real stall yet) but for sure flying low AoA > 16° + compressor stall = dead | i never got a stall by excessive throttling either flyng low and fast was never a problem. just activate altitude hold and the plane is trimmed out after a few sec. Rudel_chw Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 2) The hud scares me a bit: i've not checked online too much so i know nothing about it. It seems way too much different from what i am used to. It's different for sure, since its 60's tech and one of the earliest HUDs on a fighter plane ... but its very simple and after a short while you get very used to it. This plane is a joy to fly, on this video a user show how to navigate on the Viggen and you can see how the HUD looks: 9xiRjCA2xBM ... xxJohn explains the concepts really well, tough his take off technique at the time left a bit to be desired :) ... it's actually very easy to take off if you just use the full three stages of afterburner rather than just two. I actually love this plane and have used it non stop since February, it´s really neat to be flying so fast and so low, make a single pass at the target and then get the hell out of there :) For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
Riverseeker Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 (edited) Thanks for you opinins guys :) I mind how fast can go this machine flying 60 meter above the sea level with full abs on and no load. Should be a member of 1.2Mach club... Edited July 12, 2017 by Riverseeker club 200m butterflier inside :harhar: MERLO forever
Rudel_chw Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 :) ... the Viggen has a lot of fun things to do ... for example landing and taking off from a common road: UdGw0JLxznY For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
whaaw Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 (edited) :) ... the Viggen has a lot of fun things to do ... for example landing and taking off from a common road: i also have one of those, my shortest landing yet. i think it was about 150m ^^ PFyIVysOq7U Thanks for you opinins guys :) I mind how fast can go this machine flying 60 meter above the sea level with full abs on and no load. Should be a member of 1.2Mach club... yes you can do that by flying stage 3 at sea level, other planes cant do that. but be aware the slightest pitch imput will let you black out....^^ Edited July 13, 2017 by whaaw SFMBE
Riverseeker Posted July 13, 2017 Author Posted July 13, 2017 Well at the end i brought this plane It feels really handy and not heavy trim/ballwatching-stuff. No problems on takeoff/landing (like a charm!) Riht now i am in the phase: "I believe i can fly" :megalol: 200m butterflier inside :harhar: MERLO forever
