Northstar98 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 (edited) Hi Guys, Recently bought the Viggen, really impressed with it so far and I thank Heatblur for doing a superb job. However, I seem to be having a spot of bother, this is inputting coordinates of my secondary landing airfield, I've got no clue how to do it, the manual doesn't tell you how to designate L2 with coordinates only that it's possible, and that you need to input longitude first then latitude. I've read the manual for it but I can't get my head around how to designate coordinates for the L2 point. I can designate coordinates for L1 but I can't figure out how to do the same thing with L2 Any help would be greatly appreciated. [EDIT I've got L1 sorted, just L2 to worry about] Cheers, Ollie Edited July 22, 2017 by Northstar98 L1 sorted Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. The_Nephilim Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 can't you just input the airfield code in the computer?? I have to do this for L1 online and can be done anytime. not sure why it will not work here.. D-Day Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Secondary airfields have to have a nine in the second digit slot to identify it as the second. Batumi is 01, so the primary code would be 9001 and secondary would be 9901. See p.178 in manual. Long and Lat can be entered too.
Northstar98 Posted July 22, 2017 Author Posted July 22, 2017 (edited) can't you just input the airfield code in the computer?? I have to do this for L1 online and can be done anytime. not sure why it will not work here.. I can, but that isn't the problem, the problem is not being able to do it with coordinates like the manual says I can. (Top of pg. 180) The Viggen is designed to be able to operate from improvised areas such as suitable public roads, these will not have a code for them (though I'm sure one can be designated by tinkering around). What I'm asking is how you designate L2 using coordinates. I know how to do it for L1 without any issues whatsoever, but I can't figure out how to do it for L2. Here's what I do to designate the L1 position using coordinates instead of codes. It's pretty simple, set the mode to REF LOLA, input the coordinates, of where you want L1 to be (you can use the F10 map to find them out easily) remembering it's longitude then latitude [LOLA], in DDMMSS format. Once that is done, hit the button corresponding to the desired waypoint which for L1 is L MÅL. L1 is now at the designated coordinates, this procedure works and also works for improvised areas such as roads. The problem is how do what I did above for L1, for L2? There isn't a button corresponding to L2 and the manual doesn't explain how you designate L2 using coordinates, it says it's possible but only explains how to designate L2 using the codes, in the same way as D-Day is describing. (Which I'm perfectly fine doing and using, however, see below). The manual says at the top of page 180 and I quote: "Positions for Take-Off (LS), Landing bases (L1, L2), navigation waypoints (B1-B9) and mark points (BX) can also be entered as Longitudes and Lattitudes. Coordinates should be entered as Longitude DDMMSS, Lattitude DDMMSS. D: Degree, M: Minute, S: Second." But it doesn't explain how you do this for L2 Why do I want to use coordinates for designating my alternate landing zone? When I could just use codes. Well it's for designating a road or an improvised landing zone as my alternative landing zone (L2), which don't have codes like airbases do, so you are forced to input the zone in coordinates to designate them as the alternative landing position. [i'm sure you could designate codes for positions by tweaking .lua files or something], however, where the alternative landing zone changes from mission to mission it's less practical, when I could just look on the map, hover the mouse over where I want my alternate landing position to be, copy the coordinates down and set them using the procedure above in the cockpit. Plus it's less time-consuming to enter them on the fly. Again from the manual, top of page 180 this should be possible, I shouldn't be confined to just using the codes for airfields because the manual says I can do what I'm describing for Landing zones L1 and L2. Unless of course what I'm trying to do isn't actually possible, contrary to what it says in the manual. EDIT: It says in the manual on page 181 that and I quote "Runway heading and TILS channel for the alternate landing site L2 cannot be entered manually, maybe you also can't enter coordinates manually for L2 as well... Although on the previous page in the manual it says that Landing bases (L1, L2) can be entered using coordinates. So I don't know, maybe it's an error in the manual... Oh yeah I see it now, it's codes only, it's a little confusing because at the top of page 180 it says landing bases (L1, L2) can be entered as coordinates but at the bottom it says otherwise. Maybe that's something for Heatblur to sort, I suppose the manual is WIP after all... Oh well, that clears that up.
