NakedSquirrel Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Will friendly F14s and aircraft with compatible systems display their position on the TID? What other data can be stored and displayed on this system? IFF? Target types? GGTharos Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 There are no other aircraft with compatible systems. Link 4C was F-14 only. It's possible that Link 4A may transmit friendly aircraft positions, but it's also very vulnerable to ECM. Will friendly F14s and aircraft with compatible systems display their position on the TID? Vatikus Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 In PD mode, it apparently shows a B-scope with azimuth and closure rate which is not something I would define as raw. This is not doppler picture.. it's displaying pulsed mode... to pick lower targets you usually used technique where you put radar beam a little further than the range you were expecting target... this way you got above picture as ground return was further than target. To understand it better how you could pick lower target in this mode, I have attached picture.
Ghostrider142 Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 The RIO role is looking very interesting the more I learn about the backseat. i7-4770K @3.50GHz; EVGA 1070 8GB Superclocked; 16GB Ram; MSI Z97 Gaming; two Samsung 500GB SSD's in RAID; TrackIR; 32" 2560x1440 Samsung
Dudikoff Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 (edited) This is not doppler picture.. it's displaying pulsed mode... I don't have a -1A manual, but have found a reference in another book saying that when the PD search mode is selected, the radar presentation on the DDD will be a B-scope showing azimuth and closure rate. Not sure how what you've posted relates to that as you're talking about a pulse search mode (which is also available on the F-14 IIRC, but I'd expect it wasn't used much). Once the target sum is reached, I'll be off to somewhere nice I promise not to post from. I'd buy that for a dollar!
Vatikus Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Not sure how what you've posted relates to that as you're talking about a pulse search mode Sorry that I was not so clear in my writing. What I wanted to point out and explain is how one can come to the given scope picture that VampireNZ posted where pulse search radar picture is displayed on DDD.
captain_dalan Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Sorry that I was not so clear in my writing. What I wanted to point out and explain is how one can come to the given scope picture that VampireNZ posted where pulse search radar picture is displayed on DDD. Virtually any search mode gives off some result on the DDD (unlike the TID). If i'm guessing right, it is the DDD that will take most of the RIO's work load, as working it will give you most of the early processed radar data and if i'm not mistaken, it's where the velocity search results are displayed for maximum detection range.
