Stuge Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 (edited) Hi, this feedback from an oldschool Lock On veteran... The new netcode was implemented relatively recently, and while it was successful in reducing "jumpiness" of aircraft in multiplayer due to connection issues, thus making BVR slightly better in a laggy environment, it seems to completely ruin close combat and formation flying. There are serious, for me gamebreaking issues in multiplayer currently such as: -Jerky aircraft movement in pitch, resulting in an awful formation flight and close combat experience. -In gun battles, visible aircraft attitudes and bullet trajectories are "off" by some degree. This means you get hit by "impossible" shots and bullets that should have missed, making accurate reading of enemy's aspect, when he's going to shoot, and by extension energy state etc impossible. For a hardcore fanatic like me this is truly devastating! I believe the problem also extends to visible missile behavior, even though this is less relevant. -Delay and weird filtering in all visible aircraft reactions by other players. The "fine" aspects of maneuvering are not translated through the netcode. -Poor viewing experiences for any viewing of combat from external views, and for streaming (because events are easily out of sync if there is any hard maneuvering or gun usage involved) All this means that the online combat experience is significantly downgraded in quality and finesse. I would be very happy to be given an option to go back to the way it was before. As a reference, one can use this video to see how it was before - while viewing the fight every single bullet hits where it is supposed to hit, and the damage is seen accordingly. Also, aircraft behavior is smooth and all fine control inputs by pilots are visible. And another example of the same type, 2016. Edited September 8, 2017 by Stuge http://www.104thphoenix.com

Stuge Posted September 10, 2017 Author Posted September 10, 2017 Here's a good example of how the de-sync is visible with missiles.. the same video has other spots where the problem can also be seen. Might post something more detailed to convince those who think the current netcode is ok :) http://www.104thphoenix.com
MikeMikeJuliet Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Agreed, Stuge, Unless latency is minimal and packet loss doesn not exist close formation is horrible to look at. When flying in close formation with less than 5 meter separation there is no room for for this. None. And close formation isn't even the core of DCS, which WVR combat is. I'm not as good as to suffer from this yet, but I can certainly see the problem. It is equally problematic trying to shoot down a stuttering or warping target, especially with aircraft that cannot employ radar for a guns solution. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet DCS Finland | SF squadron
Svend_Dellepude Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Even with a radar solution it's pure guesswork where you should aim. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.
