Watch this movie http://www2.speedandangels.com/trailer/trailers/effect_of_gs-lg.wmv

There is a Navy pilot in the backseat of F/A-18. It looks like the Blue Angels pilot has a lot of fun!

That pilots saying "tall skinny guys with low blood pressure pass right out" scared me. I have low blood pressure. And I know from experience 4G's already hurts for me. :D

We need to install some hacks in Lock-on that limit you to 4 g's online then . . . :D

Hey, it's all in the name of realism right?

Good stuff! So THAT'S why fighter pilots drink a lot of beer! :D

Yep, but notice that while the *untrained* and IIRC, g-suit-less? (I forget) guy in back passes out, the pilot is having /no/ problems whatsoever!

I remember reading an account of an F4 in Nam where the back seater passed out and the explanation given was that the back seat G loads are slightly higher than the pilot in the front .. cant remember any more details and not sure if its true or not but just wonder if that could be why he passed out while the pilot was still conscious. Thats a blue angels F18 isn't it? If so they don't where G-suits do they?

Cozmo.

No, the difference is that the pilot knows when he will pull the stick and as such he knows when to begin his straining technique. The backseater does not know, and he might be late on starting the technique so he will pass out.

The pilot in that F-18 ride is *trained* and accustomed to handling these G's. The guy in the back is *not*. What *we* have in the 'realistic G model' is the guy in the back. We don't have a pilot. ;)

Wow...you can tell by seeing just his shoulders and head that he's not wearing a g-suit? Your powers of perception are superhuman, GG. ;)

What do we know of "Donk"? We know that he's Navy because of the silly-looking helmet and the enormous amount of allowable facial hair :smartass: , but we don't know what type of aircraft he normally flies. For all we know, he flies an S-3 or C-2. Besides, even IF he is a Bug driver, he still doesn't train in sustained high-G maneuvers as often as a Blue Angels pilot would. :)

Its the opposite. The guy at the front suffers more. GG's explanation is the most likely.

I am the superest of them all! ;)

Anyway my opinion stands - and I am only parroting what Rhen said, anyway. ;)

I also sent documentation to ED to back this up.

The guy in the video looks like he's got an HS-9 patch on his flight-suit. I guess that would explain why he's not accustomed to G's. :D

Doh!!! I guess the upper half is missing. The lower half could still be there though. :)

Why don’t the pilots wear G-suits?

G-suits are designed with air bladders (pockets) that inflate and deflate to keep a pilot’s blood from pooling in the pilots’ legs while executing sharp, unpredicted combat maneuvers. Unlike combat flying, the Blue Angels demonstration pilots know the maneuvers they will fly prior to execution, so each pilot knows when one will be pulling heavy gravitational forces. Anticipating the changes in gravitational forces allows the Blue Angels demonstration pilots to combat the G-forces with muscle contractions. In addition, the Boeing F/A-18’s control stick is mounted between the pilot’s legs. The Blue Angels have a spring tensioned with 35 pounds of pressure installed on the control stick that gives the pilot a “false feel.” This allows the pilot minimal room for uncommanded movement. The pilots rest their right arms on their thighs for support and stability while flying. Therefore, inflating and deflating air bladders in a G-suit would interrupt this support and stability, causing uncommanded aircraft movement. In this case, G-suits would detrimentally impact flight safety.

Why, oh why the movie ends at it's climax

Hi guys.

I think I've seen this video with the navy pilot passing out as a back seater on a ride with the blue angels at youtube.

Does anyone have a link of this video at youtube?I'd appreciate it a lot.

Thanks in advance.

hahahaha I know him! hes a pilot for the real VF-31 :D. Met him at Oceana NAS last year but I cant remember his name anymore. Seems to me he hasnt been pressing the G's of his F-14 lately :P. I think his jet number is #107, I will ask him next time I see him.

I guess i'll wave the bullshit flag.:music_whistling:
