crazyeddie Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I have read somewhere that there is a tool to remove the National Insignia from aircraft. I have a USAF and a USN skin for the F4 that I want to install over the default skins but the insignia for Turkey and Germany still appear over the new skins. I have tried it with ModMan etc, nothing seems to work. Is there an easy way to do this or does anyone know of this tool and where to find it.
Deadman Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 No tool that I know of you can change the tga fills that are tha markings you want to remove but that removes the marking from all aircraft with those markings. Some one posted that you can add the aircraft to the us in the meint and that will remove the markings but i just modify the TGA files https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

What you do is that you have to first extract these files: TURK-ZNAK.tga KREST-GERM.tga which can be found in the worldtexturestga.cdds file. Then you'd have to edit those files in Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. But as Deadman suggested, it may be better to have it moved to the USA side anyways. The only thing (if it really matters) is that you only have two selections for camo schemes, and at the present time you can't add any either, so regardless of country, you'll see the same scheme. crazyeddie Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 Many thanks guys, problem solved. Did the same things with some of the ships in December, should have realised the same sort of solution would work. As an aside, you can get both textures for the new F4's to show by simply adding the lines from the Turkish and German textures to the new USA entry. The static aircraft will only show the basic single texture (Okras 1) but this is an excellent outcome for me. Thanks again - this is an excellent site with loads of really helpful advice.
Tacbat Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I'm trying to create a new A-10A skin, but I want to get rid of the USAF insignia and numbering. Anyone know how to do this in Black Shark v1.02?
crazyeddie Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 Tacbat I think it works the same for all the sims, just replace the appropriate texture file with a modified tga file removing the insignia or numbers. I use a blank Nomera file prepared by Evil Joe many years ago, I think it is still available on the download site. Just re name it to whatever you need to hide and put it in the temp textures file. Tacbat Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 OK, but does anyone know which files I need to replace to get rid of the USAF insignia and numbers? I looked through the cdds files and temp textures in BS, but didn't see anything that looked like it would have been them. I'm looking for the specific file names and which directory they are in. It's likely different between FC and BS. I found and replaced some russian numbers, but the USAF stuff still eludes me.
crazyeddie Posted July 10, 2010 Author Posted July 10, 2010 Pretty sure it is just NOMERA.tga for the A10 numbers and insignia. If you go into Bazar World Shapes and open the A10 file, at the bottom you will see a list of the texture files used in that specific model.
Tacbat Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Which A10 file? What is the exact name of the file? All I see in that directory is .LOM and Windows Command Script files for the A-10, neither of which I can open in notepad ++. I need specifics.
crazyeddie Posted July 10, 2010 Author Posted July 10, 2010 Tacbat - Open the Command File by RIGHT clicking on it and instead of trying to open it click on EDIT, it will open then. The texture files and shown at the very bottom. It's not an A10 file as such, NOMERA has lots of stuff in it for many of the countries in the game, you cannot alter anything in it in the normal ways. I suggest you look through the add on's site to find the modified NOMERA files, one of them was adjusted to take out just the USA stuff. BUT, if you do that you loose the US insignia and numbers on every US model in the game. That's the only way you can do what you are trying to do, sorry. This is the place to look. http://www.lockonfiles.com/ 1
Tacbat Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Got it to work, in a round about way. When you mentioned the NOMERA.tga file, I had an idea. I just made a blank file, renamed it and put it in the Temptextures folder. Turns out to be exactly what I was after. Thanks for your help C.E., skinning BS isn't as easy as it is in Steel Beasts, that's for sure. :) Rep inbound!
Robin_Hood Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 What if you modify the .cmd with to replace, say, "...nomera.tga..." with "...nomera_A10.tga..." and have a specific nomera file for the A-10 (or for each plane for that matters) ? Not sure at all it would work, but could be worth a try 1 2nd French Fighter Squadron
crazyeddie Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 (edited) Won't work, if you try to change a .cmd file it wont save the change. Tacbat - that link on my post above is for a blank NOMERA, gets rid of the insignia and numbers on most of the planes (Not all though, some have that stuff on the texture files instead). Nice to see another SB fan on here, I'm just waiting for the new objects for the mission editor, ssnake said they would be released in Aug. Great Mission Builder, the scenery is the best there is in any sim and I do enjoy the odd foray into tank country. Edited July 11, 2010 by crazyeddie
Tacbat Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 No problem. I found one that wasn't blank, and just edited out the offending numbers and insignia. It's working just as I had hoped. Yeah the new Steel Beasts looks to have some extra stuff for the map/mission designer this time around. It'll be interesting to see what get's added this time. Can hardly wait for more info from Ssnake.
