VTOL Demonstration with Warthog Visualizer

Good video, thanks for posting. Any reason in particular why you split the throttle and bound the nozzle pos to the left side? Just personal preference?

I was considering using the right friction axis as my nozzle pos to avoid the awkward throttle splitting...even considered trying to find a way to add a snap on mod to the current slider to make it more of a lever.

Watching these VTOL videos, all I want is DCS to model the melting of the asphalt under the heat. Great video Jabbers, you are really letting us see how it all works. Keep it up.

Nice flying sir and butter smooth landing...... now we need to see you conduct ACMs and engage while ViFF'ing ;-)

Chomping at the bit to practice flying when this A/C is released.

Thanx for the excellent Vids.

I'll be doing mine the same way. My right friction axis is used for zoom.

My question is, how many settings are there for the flaps? I see it's just a switch he hits twice to get into full flaps, so does that mean 3 position? Up-mid-full down?

This guy sums up why I'll be doing my throttles the same way Jabbers has:

My reasoning behind going for the left throttle (instead of the slider) is that it is easily accessible while using the throttle. Using the right throttle axis for the actual throttle makes sense due to all the various HOTAS functions mapped to the buttons on the right throttle lever.

It's nice to see the exhaust is now correctly "oriented" with the nozzle position. In all of previous videos it was fixed to the rear regardless of nozzle orientation. It's nice to see little things like this getting corrected behind the scenes.

Right slider is my plan as well. Also have been considering fashioning an extension of some type. Wish I had the know how to do it with a 3D printer.

Outside of VR I use the friction slider for zoom.

Speaking of burning up the runway...Early 90s while based a KCAE 2 Harriers came up from KNBC MCAS and were cleared to land but NOT TO HOVER. Well they DID and not only fouled the runway but caught it on fire. No more Harriers after that. A few years later that main runway was closed and 10 mil was spent on beefing the TD zone up. Ooooops.....

Thanks for posting all these Videos Jabbers it has gotten me thinking about my situation (i do not have a warthog or a VR/TrackIR myself) i'm using a basic Thrustmaster Hotas T.Flight system but it has a rocker switch on the throttle i think i will use that for the nozzle positions.

Thanks again Jabbers.

We had the same thing happen at NBG. During the airshow, the Harrier demo drifted off the concrete part of the runway onto the asphalt and they had to re-do that part.

I started with a trackir and the t.flight.

I upgraded, and man, has my enjoyment of this game improved. I got a TM Warthog and TM rudders, I forget the name of them.

One day i'll be able to afford it was hoping to get TrackIR for myself on Christmas but got my electricity bill (Highest power bills in the world, good old Australia) so had to put it on hold for a few more months.

I was looking at the TrackHat as a cheaper option for now but yeah i agree it would make the simulator a lot more fun when flying the Harrier.

I can 3d model it for you on solidworks if you can give me a drawing or something. That should be usable with a 3D printer.
