RvETito Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I made my first flight on this airplane and my first and last parachute jump when I was 16. This plane is the perfect proof that there are no old and new planes, there are just good(capable) and bad planes. "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89. =RvE=
jpm1 Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Which airport is it ? it would be possible to take some pics of the metroliner in the background i like this plane (i do not count my flight hours on this plane in FS anymore :)) the AN-2 i do not like very much it s form it s personal i do not like the twin-winged aircrafts in general except the WWI planes the fotos are well made SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I have the joy of watching one every summer flying low, doing CAS against mosquitos :) Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
christopher m Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Likable, That plane has got a lot of personality. I really dig the greenhouse (conservatory) style windows Truely a classic. Nice Pics ! Regards, [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christopher M
Spidey209 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 My dad, his best friend and six others went to the Ukraine and bought one of these. After a few weeks of repairs and fitting extra fuel tanks they set out to fly it back to New Zealand, a trip covering nearly half the globe. They got as far as Alexandra before seasonal weather forced them to leave the plane in storage and come back for it 6 months later. Unfortunately Dad was broke so he didn't make this part of the journey but IIRC he joined them in Sydney to make the last leg of the trip. He co-piloted it at a few airshows before it was sold. It was cool to see such a massive prop driven plane near hovering in a mild headwind. He died of cancer not long after so I always get a bit "emotional" when I see the An-2's lined up at the airfields in LO.
mikoyan Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Sorry about your Dad... but at least he had a great adventure! I wish I could travel around the world to pick my own an-2 like your Dad did. Is it true that if you loose the engine on he an-2 you just have to pull the stick an let the airplane land by itself by dropping at really low speed? that is what I saw in an Antonow documentary, they said that the stall speed is sow low that the airplane would literally float until reaching the ground.
Vekkinho Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Yes An-2 are very common in my country and probably every other ex-Yu state. It's used for dropping paratroopers, dust cropping and mosquito warfare. I believe there's no grass runway airfield in Croatia without one. It looks as it looks, kinda obsolete for 1947 but it's very capable aircraft, short TO & L, low stall speed and a great sound from it's radial! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
