1.5 is free to play, 2.0 is alpha currently which requires either Nevada or Normandy @ $$ to use the maps, so if you have the space get 1.5 & pay for 2.0 best of both worlds :D eventually 1 or 2 become one in 2.5 (sounds like the words of a bit spice girl song :D )

Wags did not state that 2.5 would be out in a couple of weeks. The words used were 'in the coming weeks', which does not imply a time frame.

If you install 1.5 stable, you'll be installing the release branch version of DCS.

Eventually, 2.5 will go onto the release branch, once it's gone through alpha and beta, so you'll just recieve a large but normal update with no effort on your part.

It's also the most stable version, if you don't care to deal with bugs and oddities in beta and alpha.

Do we know if 2.0 alpha can be upgraded to 2.5 when it's released?

What difference does it make? Chances are that when 2.5 drops, it will be an upgrade to the existing Open Alpha. Since it is all free, it really doesn't matter.

With a major change like that, I would plan on doing a clean install just for the sake of purity.
