The LT Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 And no one even asked the guy if he had an A-10C... All this "THIS IS THE BEST MODULE IN DCS" is cringeworthy, to say the least. It will be among the best modules in DCS when the devs get all the systems in place. So far, it's quite raw and not yet ready for the casual flyer, only for the "I have all the modules and I am bored to death" DCS fans. Because I fail to see how this module is superior to the aforementioned A-10C or even the much more polished Mirage. While this module shows good promise, one should bear in mind that it has quite a few annoying issues, which will though, probably be resolved in very near future. But as it stands now, if one is to get it, he should be ready for some quirks. But out of all honesty, calling this module "the best" is taking it a bit too far. So far, the best ground attack module in DCS is the A-10C and it will probably stay that way until the Hornet comes out and gets polished OR the Harrier gets out of early access and becomes feature-complete. That said, flying the thing is fun and if you don't particularly care for weapons employment - get it. I would say the flight model is mostly finished on it and feels quite decent, especially when compared to the other modules. I would definately love a bump in the roll rate though. All things considered - this is the best effort by a 3rd party at modeling a DCS-level aircraft. So kudos to RAZBAM staff and Zeus in particular for setting the benchmark that high. Verdict? 7 out of 10. Would probably raise it after it gets out of EA. Best is totally subjective. You cannot tell someone "no, the Harrier isn't the best, the A-10C is!" because it's subjective opinion I personally do have the A-10C, and my opinion of it is that it pales in comparison to the fun and challenge of the Harrier. Yeah the 30mm is fun as hell, but the aircraft itself handles like a turkey for me.
flavnet Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 It's an interesting simulation. The harrier is unique and who has never dreamed of being in his cockpit?!? However, the harrier here simulated is still limited in its operation. The AV8B NA used by the Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan is an aircraft dedicated to CAS: its weapons are the GBU-12 and the JDAMs (the smaller ones), but not the maverick. Therefore, it is necessary to implement the use of the Litening pod. As for air combat, in my opinion the AV8B is not really suitable (especially if it has to deal with the Flankers, perhaps ... with the MIG21 ...). In general, my judgment is positive (if the implementation of the Litening will follow). Bye!!
GafferDCS Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 One tip on the A-10. Don't load it up too much. Start with 60% fuel and reduce your weapons load to keep the weight around the 40k mark at takeoff. It becomes a different airplane. AKA Gaffer
Nealius Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Yeah I've done that with the A-10 and it still handles like a Turkey. If I sneeze on the stick it will wing stall. A real A-10 pilot himself said the DCS A-10 stalls easier and has weaker engines than the real thing.
vparez Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 It's silly to call this module "the best" and I suspect people are doing so because of the novelty of it (every-new-toy-is-your-favourite syndrome). But novelty it does have, and in abundance! I have bought it in pre-order and have not regretted at all. At the same time, I don't mind an unfinished product when it is done correctly (as it was done by Razbam for the Mirage as well), with a gradual increase in features and capabilities. For me, the prime highlight of the Harrier is the FM and its V/STOL capabilities. It is similar, but at the same time, completely different to a helo. You can't fly it as a helo, you have to learn and appreciate its limitations in weight and ordinance. I am having a blast with the Harrier so far, especially learning to fly and land it. I recommend it 100%
EKOLEV Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 I think you need to rework efm, especially nose of the airplane.
