It would be great to have the option where rather than be exposed to screen flashing while a mission loads up, a static image with a progress bar is displayed and only once everything is loaded up for the mission it displays the roles screen. I cant help but feel like I'm going to have some kind of seizure behind those strobing VR goggles. Could ED at least investigate some kind of alternative to this way of loading into missions.

Yeah it’s annoying, can happen in game too if you get FPS drops (not sure if it happens on the rift). Don’t think it can be solved until DCS itself is less powerful than the hardware we are using but giving that we are all bound to one core I don’t see that happening any time soon!

I don't get flashing. I also normally lift my headset onto my forehead to slurp coffee or roll a smoke while stuff loads. Shut your eyes and count to 60 if it's so bad ;)

aaahhh the rift cigarette break....

for us fools still smoking..

don't smoke kids, your rift fills up with smoke and your eyes water.

probably great for simulating a cockpit fire though.

with the rift you do get the loading screen with a progress bar, so i think this is on the Vive?

its a screen at 2 fps though so not very "smooth"..

Hmm can't say I have ever had my screen flashing in my Rift while a mission is loading in DCS.

I think its a VIVE thing. When the game is loading up something in the menus or at mission start, you'll be dropping frames. The VIVE dev's however had the bright idea to implement a feature that when you drop frames in order to avoid motion sickness you will instead momentarily flash back out into the steam VR overlay screen, or maybe will just see a base station flash, or if its really bad an actual loading screen. Its a stupid idea that is there to prevent people getting motion sick and thereafter swearing off VR altogether.

This happens a lot on the menus (where personally it doesn't bother me) but it can occasionally happen in game too, especially if running a lower end system, or just a mission that is way too much for the game to handle.

Anyone planning to buy the new VIVE headset should be aware of this issue...

There is a chance however I am talking about something different to the OP! Will let him determine if we are talking about the same thing!

I get it in my Odyssey. I think it might be due to the memory required in DCS. I have 16Gb of ram and DCS in VR uses 98% of it. Seems like a lot but the game runs beautifully once it’s loaded up so no complaints.

How is the odyssey resolution wise dude? Have you tried other headsets from which to make a comparison?
