Yeah, I understood that part. But just like in the topic start, I'd like to show exact the same view for all different settings. Is it possible to easily make the track stop at the same instant every time?

As a new DCS user, this helped a lot. Thanks.

Use a simple mission everytime as benchmarking. Install a fps indicator like msi afterburner.

This is what I do

Simple mission won't expose and use the full feature set, use of radar, weapon tracking, AI operations, etc, therefore you're not really benchmarking many of the things, but I guess it works to just test the base idle scenarios and compare those.

Does the comparison of low vs high terrain textures still hold true? So there's no real visual benefit from high?

I'm asking because I often struggle to see features such as roads, cities, fields clearly enough to use for visual navigation or basic target finding until I'm right on top of them, and the terrain looks very smudged/blurred even at moderate distance. Would this be mainly impacted by the "visibility distance" setting instead?

more likely to be your AA settings causing the blurring or or a lack of Anisotropic filtering ?

AA is off Anisotropic is at 4x. I'm in VR and mostly went off your settings but turned a couple of things down, like Visib range to medium for better performance. I think I'm going to bump visib range up to high and anisotropic to 8x see if that's still fine for FPS.

ansio has almost zero perf impact; crank it all the way !

Did a bit of testing and I don't get a big performance hit from going High visibility range and 16x anisotropic filtering, which is good and things do look quite a bit better.

I also tested low vs high terrain textures and didn't notice a performance hit there either, hard to tell if there's any visual improvement. So is this still a dud setting?

Even though this guide is 2years old, it worked perfectly on my setup (RX580 1440p).

So many guides have you turn down the preload visibility or tree visibility or clutter/grass which do work but never really look that good.

I'm amazed that basically turning down the shadows, and turning off MSAA allows me to almost max out everything else. I'm using his exact settings but using Shadows Low and I've turned up Civ Traffic to Low and Lens Flare on. That is working so well.
