Alpenwolf Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 The title says it; been having a hard time with DCS 2.5 and whatever I do to set up my paging file properly it simply seems to not boost the performance in any way. I use my 512 GB SSD for windows and DCS ONLY (drive C). My 1 TB HDD is divided in 2 partitions; 512 GB each (drive D and drive E). I use the HDD as a "cache" to save temp data on it as you might know relieves the SSD a bit. Image 1 is my system, image 2 shows the window for configuring the virtual memory. I've tried out a couple of settings and still no lcuk. Seems to work for everyone but NOT me. I know my luck  Any tips? microvax Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 (edited) A page file will perform like terrible in comparison to RAM, there is no way around that. The system managed size should dynamically increase to as much as is needed, otherwise your computer would crash. Like seriously, if the page file was "too small" as people say, you computer would bluescreen and byebye. There is a minimalistic performance gain from not having to dynamically grow and shrink it. uncheck automatic management and set it to something static like 32GB. Mind the danger though, if you then would need more then 16GB RAM + 32GB pagefile things go poof and you bluescreen. A page file will not boost your performance. It prevents your Computer from crashing if your memory runs out. The pagefile is your saviour if a program needs to page something in and there is absolutely no memory left to page it in. And only gain of a static size is that it doesnt have to map a part of the mass storage first. But for SSD that gain is minimalistic since you can allocate space very quickly without access time penalty for the rest working on the storage and the OS thinks a few steps ahead anyways. firmek Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Just leave it as automatically managed. It's already located on SSD which gives you the best performance. What is quite often misunderstood is that paging file should only be needed when low on RAM. This is absolutely false. Windows will use the paging file all the time, also as a memory for non-performance critical or non-used applications even when plenty of free RAM is available. Becase of this don't turn the paging file off even if on a new system with a lot of RAM - for instance 64GB. Doing so may have a negative impact on the performance and system stability. Alpenwolf Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 Thanks for the info! I've read the like elsewhere as well and so far I've been trying to figure out the "right" minimum and maximum sizes and still no luck. I've tried the 16000-32000 setup, then *1.5 the amount of that, even 8000-16000 etc. Performance stays all the same or DCS simply wont run. Still no bluescreen thank God! And I don't want to push it... I guess, I'll have to live with it or maybe buy another 16 GB RAM. ED is working on the memory leak as well but that wont fix my configuration so it's up to me, I guess. Told you, I know my luck ;) HACA DYCA Discord Cold War 1947 - 1991 You can help me with keeping up the server via PayPal donations: hokumyounis@yahoo.com

sze5003 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 When I had 16gb of ram I didn't set a pagefile. I always closed everything I was not using when playing dcs. I have 32gb now but i don't think I have a page file set right now either. If you run an SSD and have enough ram, you should be ok without one but to be safe you can set it to something like 2gb or just leave it system managed.
