possible to pause/repeat text instructions in tutorial

Hello All,

I was wondering if it would be possible to pause or repeat the white text/instructions in the upper right corner. I am learning the huey but the training mission shows six instructions at once which fade out and then disappear. I would like to keep them visible and disappear only when I press spacebar.

Any ideas??

Thank you!

I have asked this question in the past and got a resounding no!

Pity, because at times there is way too much information that disappears too quickly. Impossible to take it in.

I recall the text is held in a readable file somewhere, but it’s really no substitute.

You can always pause the sim.

You can, but it’s not the solution. You end up getting in a mess with pausing, unpausing, making an action, etc. etc.

It would be ideal if the text stayed up until the space bar was pressed.

I really don’t see why that cannot be easily implemented. After all, a lot of the instructions require a space bar press to move on.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Isnt it built in some script? I mean someone typed these lines and decided we have to press spacebar after 2, 3 or whatever number of lines. This should not be this difficult I guess??

I did not say it was a 'solution'. It is a way of addressing the issue. The change you want ED to make has potential but that is something for a wishlist post.

Pausing the lesson is currently the best option. It is not the most stylish one but it will do.

It is what I do with the A10C and Su25T lessons. So far I'm doing fine.

As someone who is programming a tutorial mission it is possible to design a mission that can reverse through the narrative but it has to be designed into the mission.

Example that every "wait for user to hit spacebar" event will accept two inputs, spacebar and backspace. Each will set a certain flag to 1. What those flags trigger can be anything.

Retrofitting a tutorial or any mission to allow "go back a step" can range from trivial to nearly impossible depending on the structure of it.

It’s not addressing the issue at all. It’s a very messy workaround.

Have you tried these missions with pausing, writing down an instruction, unpausing, trying to find the appropriate controls, pausing..... repeat ad nauseum. Just doesn’t work.

As has been posted already here, sometimes there are 6 or 7 instructions to follow, and the text disappears in a few seconds. Remember, these are missions for people trying to learn the aircraft and the controls.

There should be a much better way.

When flying certain missions in DCS VR , at times I need to copy down JTAC L/L or UTM coordinates. I found using Postits is awkward. So I took a tip from flyboys of the past and just bought this. Should do the trick. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BJ5QGWQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
