I've been having lots of stutters on NTTR recently. Not so much (really at all) on Caucasus. It's rather strange as I have DCS installed on an SSD, and my graphics settings aren't very high. The stutters are frequent and constant, almost every couple seconds. Deleting the fxo and metashaders folders don't seem to do anything, nor does changing my graphics settings. I've enlarged pagefile size on both my OS drive (HDD) and DCS drive (SSD) and that doesn't relieve the symptoms either.

Out of curiosity I opened up Performance Monitor and looked at hardware usage. CPU was at 39%, RAM at 7.5GB, GPU at 100%, both Disks at 0-3%. Nothing that really yells at me saying "this is causing the stutter!"

Has anyone been able to narrow down what causes this mysterious stuttering, or have a similar issue where it only affects one map and not the other?

I'm using VR (Rift) and find I get frame drops if the GPU hits 100% and there seems to be a fine line to MSAA and consistent FPS if I lock VR at 45FPS and ASW on I seem to get infrequent but small (short) stutters some models work better than others and proximity to other map features affect this. I pretty much only fly helicopters and usually close to the ground. Different maps have there own idioms with settings but for me micro freezing (drop frames) usually occurs when hitting 100%GPU usage.

If I drop MSAA to *2 I rarely have issues in simple missions mostly everything else on high and shadows on flat in SP, a bit difficult to test ATM is MP missions, due to the crash'o'matic nature I'm experiencing getting into servers and not crashing the aircraft before the server/connection crashes or has a cluster load of lag just before you park into something rather unexpectedly.

Still early days and overall working pretty good. :D

DCS in SP simple missions about 6GB RAM and maybe 15% CPU and GPU 80 to 90 something % for smooth gameplay.

YMMV. :D

Now that you mention it, I do get much fewer stutters flying something like the Huey close to the ground, through Vegas. When I fly the Harrier at higher altitudes is when I start to get tons of stuttering, especially departing/arriving the Vegas area.

I gave pretty much the same system as yourself, what kind of missions/how many units etc. when you have the problems?

Please see my settings.

usually if im flying vegas i turn off deferred shading.

I will try with my normal settings on vegas

Don't know but I cap out at like 300 plus mtrs way too far to fall right.:P

When I fly the Harrier I have a total of 65 units, but only 4 of them are "live" AI: 2 KC130s, an SA3 search radar, and SA3 track radar. Everything else is a static object for target practice, or uncontrolled aircraft parked on airbases to make the environment less sterile and boring.

In comparison, my Caucusus missions have 22 total units, with only 3 of them being "live" AI. The rest being, again, static objects or parked, uncontrolled aircraft.

I wouldn't think static objects/parked aircraft would drain hardware resources that bad.

I just made a flight from nellis to vegas in a huey at low level. I had no stuttering problems but the visuals in the distance were terrible for jaggies. A lot worse than kavkas

Try on the "Through the inferno" single player mission and see what happens

"Flare" on or off doesn't affect my system's performance at all, and with it off the sun looks like shit, so I might as well leave it on.

Attaching the mission file.

I would recommend setting the Pagefile on all your HDs to zero and tell us if it gets better. In my understanding having 2 pagefiles is actually worse than one, even if one of them in on a fast SSD, because you never know when the system decides to access the slow one which leads to a slowdown on the memory bus. By making it larger you just increase the problem. Better take that slow HD pagefile away from it, so it has no choice but use the one your SSD.

Windows does select the drives that suites best actually, giving it more choices can only be better but everyone has a different PageFile attitude. Deactivating is (without a doubt not the greatest of ) an idea, but also here, opinions go far apart, so does the info on the net, some articles dating back to win95, 2k, xp. etc.. what was ok & good for 2k and xp may do the opposite on 7, 8 and 10.

I have no stutter, no TiR issues, solved my USB pain with a little more voltage on VCC-SS and IO and all thos pains were gone..but hey..I am not the only one here who has it running great, maybe some others without PageFile have also success. There is no BOLD answer to this, just own experience and lots of reading.

My PF usage is roughly 16-32GB, always, in DCS. Despite I run 32GB and have at least 10GB avaliable when running DCS.

edit' I have PF's on every drive btw

Okay what I have found with 1080Ti is that running graphic settings at up to 100% GPU usage is kinda okay but in VR at least gives you no headroom for the GPU. I have observed stutters when the GPU hits 100% actually frame drops, if I back the settings off a tad so the GPU has some head room I get smooth FPS.

MSAA is the worst especially in VR for causing stutters, might be worth dropping settings back a bit to see what changes. You'll need to do this in a fairly methodical way and work through single changes it's a slow process but chopping and changing several settings at once wont really help.

I'll do some investigating tonight.

Are you locking the frame rate to the monitor?

How much GPU ram is utilised?

i can tell you from mining that if your powertarget is used up the gpu will clock down, and up again, then down again, and so on.

tune a setting where your gpu clock is a flatliner, maybe at 2ghz or so, dont push it harder than it wants to.

sometimes 2-5% less PT do the trick, better cooling, or grant more mV ( worst solution ).

cpu and gpu should be flatliner graphs, CONSTANT. any ups n downs = badly configured.

I've just got to say for me with Rift VR a constant 45FPS and fluid flight experience with acceptable and consistent VR quality wins over smashing CPU and GPU, currently running about 15% CPU @ 6ishGB DCS RAM and 70 to 80% GPU @ 8ishGB VRAM.:D
