Is radar emission at 10 nm in TWS mode enough for 530D seeker to track?

Simple question as in title. anyone knows?

Ah so the seeker is not sensitive enough, roger. Thanks for clarifying!

Ah so the seeker is not sensitive enough [...]

I would strongly recommend to take jojo's post seriously. Especially this line, cited from the article:

The target must remain illuminated for the entire duration of the missile's flight.

Since in TWS, a target can't be illuminated all the time because the antenna still moves to search and track for other targets, it can't be used to guide the missile.

You can launch several AIM120 missiles on different targets using TWS, but these missiles are not SARH but use their own radar for finding the target

I'm not sure it's sensitivity but PID hops around between a dwell on the bugged target and a general scan. The missile would see reflections "blinking" as the radar dwells on the intended target and then scans elsewhere. This could be very disruptive.

The AIM-120, which is an active type missile, can be guided in TWS mode, but as far as I know it's not through reflected emission. IIRC, the launcher aircraft sends some type of datalink signal to the missile, informing it about the target's position.

The 530D is a semi-active type and, as far as I know, all semi-active missiles need continuous hard lock on the target.

Lol yesterday was the first time that I realized I must DOUBLE lock my target again for STT after losing lock... I wonder if in real M2000 the lock button is also a 8-way button (i use the TDC cursor button to lock, can be pain in the *ss when maneuvering)

Why don't you look for that in the manual ? The answer could be there.... sigh....

And why don't you just read the manual ? The above is clearly explained in it.

Now that's weird, manual says AA function on Joystick is in DCS target lock... But where is target lock in the REAL M2000?

First link is mostly good, might need improvements but it's okay.

Second one is for the half of it false.

@leomen is it your work ? I can provide you the accurate translations.

No I just found it on the site.

Ok, just be advised the most of the SNA part (most left part) is wrong and the the BRM is not used for missile fire or bomb release anymore in the M2000C RDI (manual is for RDM).

Edit: to be more precise the "Command temps-réel SNA" down in A/A mode is target unlock, forward is axis aiming (close combat vertical/boresignt), backward is HUD field or horizontal plane( close combat HUD FOV/Horizontal ).

Wow, bad design imo, pilot needs to focus a lot to get used to moving thumb forward = TDC left etc... :/

Almost certainly radar manipulator switch is neither 4-way nor 8-way but a proportional control allowing joystick-like control in the plane. When you sit in a plane it is obvious how the control should respond. Do not insult aerospace engineers which have a decade of experience.

Insult?? Did I write the f or n Word? No! Freedom of speech, all I did was write "bad design in my opinion". Even my T16000 throttle has more buttons etc than the M2000C throttle. But maybe that's due to Dassault in 1980s not being able to put more buttons into that throttle (technical limits maybe)

:megalol:

I don't even know where to begin.

Maybe they did not need more buttons ?

Saying that the work of a designer is bad design when you don't have any background in design and you know how plane systems works nor want to learn how they work is an insult to their work.

See ? Insults can take other forms than just "f or n word".

And I find VERY inappropriate for you to comment on Dassault work (or any plane designer work).

Also, you are free to say that Dassault did bad designs but other people are also free to say that your comments are not appropriate. "Freedom of speech" works both ways.
