thrustvector Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 ok, just getting into using a jtac for targets. I have a mission where I can get a jtac to laser targets for me. using the TGP as SOI I enter the new code into the system say 1111 into OSB17,LSS. I also enter this into OSB 18 as well, my on-board code? so they both say the same, not sure if that's necessary. then return to main page, TGP is SOI, right long DMS all fine, detects then TMS short forward. this all goes well, target is in the centre so I know all is ok, line up press pickle bomb away. now they always miss by around the same margin, as I'm new to jtacing I don't press or activate my laser as they are doing it for me what have I missed? thanks for help, most likely a silly missed button somewhere, but I done this via the manual......so I thought :)
WarrenSkip Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 First off, make sure of the code that you are using is the same as JTAC. That is LSS code and the code on your bomb. LSS code is the code for the laser searcher, while the bomb code is obviously for the bomb to follow the laser with that code. After you find the laser, the TGP should display LTRACKL. After that, make SPI, and all you need to do is pickle. Keep in mind that GBU-12 CEP is a few metres so it won't always hit right on target. My understanding of this at least.
thrustvector Posted April 3, 2018 Author Posted April 3, 2018 ok, all that seems ok, didn't notice LTRACKL just detect, ill go have another go n look
thrustvector Posted April 3, 2018 Author Posted April 3, 2018 hmph, still not doing something right, if I lase my own tgt it hits all the time np, any chance someone can check my track then you can see what I do wrong...thanksjtacA10 VL.trk
Peaches Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 You need to change the bomb laser code in the INV page of the DSMS to match the JTAC code.
thrustvector Posted April 3, 2018 Author Posted April 3, 2018 thanks peaches, never done it in there before, but worked 100% cheers
Peaches Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Good to hear. This ability is also important to deconflict your self-lased bombs if flying in multiplayer with a wingman who is also using LGBs. In that case, you'd want to change your bomb code and TGP lasing code to a value other than the default 1688.
Yurgon Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 You need to change the bomb laser code in the INV page of the DSMS to match the JTAC code. Good advice, that would have been my guess as well. Just as an addendum, IRL the laser code on the bomb can only be changed on the ground. I believe it has to be set on one or several dials using a screwdriver. In DCS, the in-game JTAC currently can't dial his laser designator to our bomb code, so we have to do it the other way around. Just be aware that setting an LGB's laser code in the DSMS is a workaround in DCS, but doesn't work IRL. In an MP environment, the pilot would tell the JTAC his bombs' laser codes (typically, all bombs on a plane should be set to the same code) and the JTAC would then set his binos to this code for LSS and final guidance, or at least that's the way that makes the most sense IMO. I assume it's done the same way in reality.
WarrenSkip Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 First off, make sure of the code that you are using is the same as JTAC. That is LSS code and the code on your bomb. :(
thrustvector Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 lol, don't be sad warren, I thought I had already done that per the manual in the right mfcd, I didn't notice that I had to do it in the dsms page too. I'm sure I have seen them setting them on the ground yurgon...technology eh :)
Puma Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Another option is to set only the tgp lss to the jtacfrquency, then keep your own laser and the bomb inv code the same but different from his and then self lase. So use his code to find the target then your own to track the bomb.
