S77th-konkussion Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Well- the server is exactly that is it not? It's a server- not a playing computer. No one is really seeing the glory of that particular high end machine first hand. The high end bits certainly do speed loading, and should be ROCK steady & stable almost regardless of mission content. But clients mostly set their own graphics. The host computer forces visible ring,(i think) scenes, civ traffic, but the rest of it is client choice. In other words- when you crank up the settings- this only taxes the resources of the hosting computer, and does not improve anything for the clients. Now- I'm not saying that a server shouldn't be cranked up. If you have one- do what you like with it. It's yours! A few clients will benefit (or not be affected) from the higher scenes, etc, others' performance will be degraded. Ice Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 I dont believe it affects visibilty Range? Maybe someone could verify. The server has allways been set to minimum for that.
Kuky Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I think civilian traffic and visibility range is set by user and isn't reset by the server. The scene file is affected but I don't think these two are. Kuky Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 hmm... didn't know that PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
S77th-konkussion Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I definitely could be wrong about server forced vis-ring. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Ice Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 As we are still testing the server and settings, Externals will stay on for the time being. I also want to check AWACS activity and the Kuznetsov Carrier fleet during the game. As it stands now the Kuznetsov and its escort now have a set path in the Black Sea. An extra 8 Su33's have been allocated to it. Each side has 3 AWACS. 1 takes off, flys for approx 3-4 hours then lands and the next will take off after 3.5 hours. Obviously the main objective for both teams is to take out the AWACS or defend their own.
RvETito Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Externals will stay on for the time being. Sure it's your server and rules but may I ask what is your point behind this? One suggestion- turn off Civ traffic and set Scenes to medium. It will improve everyone's performance keeping graphics at reasonable level(read good). I found High settings for Scenes and Water to be useless- they just eat the computer without a significant picture improvement. With them at Medium along with Civ traffic off, Visib range to medium, Terrain preload 50km and everything else maxed up I never have under 20-25FPS no matter the mission. 169th_Bat Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Yep off now. Anything we can do about the FPS Ice? "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few". - Sir Winston Churchill 1940.
Ice Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 ive made some minor changes and no need to record tracks on server anymore. seems like vista may be handling the track a little differently. to close the server down quickly just close HL.

So what you are saying is there is no need to restart the server? The only requirement is to restart HL? Is this correct? Are you running Vista when in the Pit now? "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few". - Sir Winston Churchill 1940.
Ice Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 Id still like to see the server restarted at least once every 24hrs. And once the stats board is running Lock ON must be closed completely b4 restarting a new session.
169th_Bat Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 And Vista? Do you use Vista on your PC whilst flying? Or still on Win XP? "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few". - Sir Winston Churchill 1940.
Ice Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 XP Pro. I'll try Vista soon. Waiting on the Microsoft Partners Bundle.
Program2 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 The important thing is the missions. I flew for about 6 hours on the one that was loaded and it just wasn't realistic. The ground pounders had to fly 3x as far to get into the action as the fast movers did. That hampers any kind cooperative effort between the two missions. SAM launchers up to 20k away from their search radars too. Ridiculous. If the goal is to provide layers of defense for the large sites then you'd use MANPADS and other shorter ranged systems overlapping. The problem isn't so much the server, it's how the missions are put together. I've uploaded some of my LMR m/p missions to 3Sqn's FTP so if any of you are interested in something more close to reality hop on when the server is up. I remember right before they were told they weren't allowed to, Mustang posted in his then team's forums that they'd learned more about flying from flying LOC and my missions than they'd learned in a year with the squad they were in. And considering 'Stang is one of the hottest stick's I've seen on HL that's high praise indeed. ruggbutt, When will the server be up? I would like to try.
Ice Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 Statistics server should now be linked to the new server. Here's the link http://169thpanthers.com.au/Stats/statsindex.php Add it to your favourites
RvETito Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 It opens for me but the board is blank. "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89. =RvE=
