Wrong. Stealth technology started with the flying wing. It was simultaneously developed in the 30's and 40's by Jack Northrup in the U.S. and the Horton brothers in Germany. The british also found that the Mosquito was almost impossible to see on radar because of the plywood it was constructed from.

This is what he was talking about,

"In 1966 a well-known Soviet mathematician, Pyotr Ufimtsev, published a paper in which he described mathematical methods to predict RCS of two-dimensional objects. Ufimtsev's work was directly used by Lockheed's mathematician, Denys Overholser, to develop computer software known as "Echo 1", which could calculate the RCS of an aircraft constructed of flat panels. This program was used to find the optimum geometry to minimize an aircraft's RCS. The resulting structure became known as "Hopeless Diamond", which lies in the basis of F-117A's external construction."

Only YOU are sure Rugg was serious about that, its all in YOUR head.
I was not sure and that’s why I asked HIM to clarify his position. And he did. What is your rant about a question directed to Rugg?

Yes, I make jokes about people exposed to toxic material because I have been there a few times myself.
You too are joking about exposure of people to toxic material? Hmm?

If you can't simply laugh something off as humor, …
Very few jokes are universal to every situation, every culture, every religion. Therefore you have to be careful what joke you say at what time and in what environment. Logical?

… then you're just a sheltered wannabe, who is judgmental because you have never been brave enough to come out of your protective bubble.
He, he, he … I had my pictures on this forum, my name is publicly available on the net. I did not judge you, yet by you judging me, you are telling me I am judgmental? He, he, he … Give me few more of those “logical thoughts”, would you please …

Seriously, you should run for political office here in the US...your kind is very popular at the moment.
Well, thank you. My “kind” you say? And who is judgmental? Iguana, you are so funny.

Heh...its decided for you! ;) What're you gonna do, turn 'em down if they accept you into the program? :smilewink: Just be sure to bring your "I'm gonna sweat!" attitude, because Goodyear, AZ AND Sheppard AFB are both hot as a bastid, pretty much all year. One of the few to be physically qualified? Let me guess, you've got good vision and depth perception. DP is something that immediately sinks MANY a candidate.

No way am i gonna turn them down!

Well, it has alot to do with my overall body state. You get tested from head to toe. Besides Neurology and alot of fitness tests you do MRTs and also several thermal pictures of your back and other parts of your body to check the muscles and back posture. So basically, you usually go there as a healthy guy and you leave as a crippled mofo..because you find out things that are wrong about you that you didnt know about. But i walked out all fine. Besides putting electrodes on your head, they also check the length of your limbs and everything to see in what aircraft you fit in. So yeah..thats a rough overview...I didnt get into the psychological-motoric ability tests..as in..aptitude tests.

Cheers,

In the end, I was a bad person. How about you, Rugg, did you become a bad person too? I hate it when that happens. :smilewink:

His English is just fine. It has more to do with close mindedness and ignorance than anything else.

Let me just remind you that is exactly how you took my F-16 joke a while ago ;)

Politics should be set aside on these boards.
I will not be provoked to talk politics here.

Let us go back to the topic.

F-117 was once a very good, revolutionary airplane. It is now outdated and is beginning to be pulled out of service.

The only F-117 lost in combat was over Yugoslavia and NATO did not bomb the wreckage as precautionary measure to protect secrets. I don’t know why NATO didn’t do it, however, my guess is that there was no secret big enough to risk another F-117 (or other bomber) loss in trying to bomb the wrackage.

IguanaKing; maybe the USA didn't bomb that F117 wreckage because the Serbs knew what they shot down and were all over that thing in the the shortest possible time. So the US generals might have decided that it would cause a lot of casualties if they bombed it. Deliberately killing soldiers and civilians alike might just have been to high a price to pay for the USA too keep certain secrets.

I saw what I think to be a similar situation in Iraq on the news where people were swarming all over an American M1 MBT that had broken down. Suddenly there was a noise of a jet overhead and everybody scattered, fearing that it had come to destroy the tank, but it did not attack. If a jet was going to drop a GBU, you wouldn't know about it till the bomb hit you in the left ear (I am talking about civilians and the media that were standing around.).

The USA destroyed the tank eventually, but waited for everybody to have left it alone first.

It might have been an Apache, I saw both on the news, but I do not remember what happened to each of them.

The anti-American sentiment of the media (In South Africa.) really pi$$ me off. I saw a hell of a lot worse done in recent wars (Information supplied by the same media.) but it is completely ignored.

Terrorists that murder aid-workers in their countries do it because they are “desperate”.

No actually they are doing it because the aid-workers can not help the general population if they are dead or are scared off. Thus the general population will not receive any foreign aid and will be alienated from the ones that are trying to help them.

This is classic terrorist tactics: Target the people that you are “liberating”. Make them loyal to you out of shear terror.

Sorry, drifted off topic.

It was a trap waiting for US aircraft though - I mean you just -know- they're going to send a rescue.

Besides which, something tells me that in terms of secrets, the pilot may have been a little more valuable than the aircraft itself ...

I saw a guy who was on air defense duty that night talking on TV.. he said that while the F-117 was falling the sky was light up with AAA (much like pictures of AAA above Belgrade or Baghdad you could see).. nato barely managed to pool the pilot out (I also remember some nato chopper pilot talking about how many wholes they had and not believing they were still alive). So, sending a plane to do it was a risk. At that time they didn't know what was used to shoot down the 117 ("could it be that they have S-300 after all?"). Doing it with a cruise missile could be an option, but I imagine that takes much longer to prepare, and the wreckage was scavenged rather quickly.

So the US generals might have decided that it would cause a lot of casualties if they bombed it.
If by casualties, you mean collateral damage, then we know that NATO targeted targets of very little military values with significant collateral damage. Therefore, in my opinion, collateral damage was not the reason.

Amen brother! Anti American media makes me sick indeed. Same with anti Serbian media. And anti Russian and anti-you-name-democratic-government …

I'm thinking that air defenses were a HUGE concern. Afterall, the Serbs had managed to shoot down an F-117A, so sending in a conventional aircraft afterward would not have been a good idea. The jet isn't invisible, but if one got taken out, you can bet the air defenses were thick in that area. Lots of other factors too though, just like you said. :)
I actually agree with you here.

We take care of our own...its a HUGE morale boost for a guy who gets his aircraft shot out from under him to know that someone will at least TRY to come get him.

Just heard it on news that a documentary entitled Zlatni Zoltan or Golden Zoltan, about Colonel Zoltan Dani is being filmed. Zoltan commanded the unit that shot down the F-117...

What I meant was that there is a difference between bombing a target if there might be collateral damage and bombing it if you know there are going to be collateral damage.

Also USA armed services operate under much higher restrictions than most other armed forces.

I saw a picture once of ECOMOG (UN) soldiers that had decapitated about dozen of their enemies and put their heads out on display (In two rows on the ground.). It was clear that nothing was done against them.

P.S. I do not want to offend anybody here; but destroying the enemies broadcasting media seems to me like a strategically important thing to do.

=4c= Hajduk Veljko and Nscode; I am not making lightly those (Military or civilian.) who gave their lives for your country.

Amen brother! Anti American media makes me sick indeed. Same with anti Serbian media. And anti Russian and anti-you-name-democratic-government …

I read a book by an American author (Dave Hunt) that tells about things that were done against Serbs in World War II.

That was not the focus of the book but he pointed out that the story in Yugoslavia is not as one sided as the media makes it out to be.
