How do you utilise the course line?

Loving the update on the Leaping Heap, and great to see progress overall. :thumbup:

 

Can someone wiser than me, please give me a precis on how one uses the course line in the EHSD, which seems to be working now?

 

I understand that it's used to approach a waypoint from a desired direction, but I'm not sure how to utilise it for that. With the EHSD set as North-up, the line set vertical the course readout in the bottom-right of the MPCD doesn't read 0 or 180, it's off by quite a way.

 

I could do with a steer (ahem... :D)

Still working things out myself but it seems the course line in 2.5.1 is only correctly aligned when the EHSD is using the aircraft heading (not North-up).

 

The course line in moving map is aligned correctly only when the map is oriented along the aircraft headin]

Course lines can be used for example to line up with the runway under bad visibility conditions: if you set up TACAN (or RSBN for Russian modules) for a particular airfield, and the course line along runway heading in the direction you're supposed to land, you know when to turn in. That allows you to line up with the runway perfectly even if you can't see a thing outside of your cockpit.

There is an excellent training mission explaining that for the MiG-21, and I'm pretty sure Wags showed it in one of his Hornet videos.

 

Another very useful feature of course lines, is setting up an offset point you're trying to navigate towards. The Mirage has a good training mission for that, and there are YouTube videos that explain it for the F-5E for example.

all these excellent training mission in other modules are nice but they are need in Harrier I don't own M-21, Mirage. When will some training missions be available for Harrier

AFAIK when the module enters beta stage with all it's systems functional.

 

The missions will be free, and will be added as soon as I can create them, i.e. the module enters beta stage with all the systems functional. Otherwise I will end up doing training with parts that don’t function and I don’t want to go down that road, as end users are usually unhappy and I have twice as much work on updates, changes, new voice overs etc... so unfortunately you will have to wait a little longer, but there will be a good set of fully interactive missions.

Looks like this issue in N-Up has reared it's head again. CRS line only shows in Hd-Up mode, not N-Up. 16/02/2022
