S77th-konkussion Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 This leaves only the USS Kitty Hawk as the last conventionally powered aircraft carrier in the USN. I think the KH is scheduled to be replaced next year. The JFK was 40 yrs old.. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,260622,00.html <S> to the crew- both former & present. Aeroscout Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 That's really sad to hear... DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
S77th-konkussion Posted March 23, 2007 Author Posted March 23, 2007 Even sadder- the JFK apparently lost her active duty flight deck qualifications quite a while ago due to equipment on board needing more repair than it was worth. They have been using it for training. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Fudd Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 My Mother-in-Law took these photos when it stopped in Boston a few weeks ago before its final float to decomissioning. Enjoy! :pilotfly: The code is probaly in Russian anyway.
Viper101 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 yes. very, very sad. Hope her fate wouldnt be the same as the America's :( This leaves only the USS Kitty Hawk as the last conventionally powered aircraft carrier in the USN. I think the KH is scheduled to be replaced next year. The JFK was 40 yrs old.. the CVN-77 George H.W. Bush is planned to be the replacement as for the CVN-78 Gerald R. Ford will be the lead ship of a new class "Ford", aka "Super Carrier".:P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

warthogmadman987 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 yes. very, very sad. Hope her fate wouldnt be the same as the America's :( Ok dude, i find that a bit offensive, especially since you cannot predict the future. Not trying to start a flamewar here, but i think that you need to be a little bit more careful with what you post, but that is for the mods to decide.
667th_Marine Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I think he is talking about the USS America....could be wrong though :) Semper Fi

Obviously you have never heard of the USS America (CV-66) and that it was sunk 250 miles off the coast of North Carolina..... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Aeroscout Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 The enterprise. Cool! 355th_Paulie Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I always thought the Enterprise was a starship....:D :D
Black_Hawk Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 IIRC even a space shuttle was named that :pilotfly: 159th GAR LockOnFiles CAW Team
Aeroscout Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Ya, makes sense, if you dnt need it, sink it. I even heard they can be used to create artificial reefs under water, so there is also an enviornmental aspect to it. :D DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
Viper101 Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 He misunderstood your post...let it go. ;) I can think of worse fates for the poor old girl, like rotting away in a port somewhere because its curators don't have the funding and/or the desire to keep it up. Serving with another country's military? Now, that just wouldn't do either. So...yeah...sink it. :D I say give it to us (Baltimore City).....their still trying to get the USS Forrestal and put it next to Fort McHenry in the harbor :). First carrier for a tomcat to set gear on and one of the first carriers built.....I would go to the harbor every day just to sit there and look at it on the Mako.:D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Evilducky Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 My cousin was stationed on the JFK. Now hes getting moved to another one. 1
S77th-konkussion Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 have a rep point for him. :) [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Evilducky Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I dont think they are going to sink it. They want it as a museum instead. I can find out for sure for you guys.
Evilducky Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 heres the message I got from him when I asked them what they are going to do with the ship. I also asked him what ship he was getting transfered too. "not sure what they are going to do to the ship. i am going to USS Peleliu in cali." I guess its undecided at the moment maybe. But who knows.
S77th-konkussion Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 It's headed to Philly- I think that means eventual scrap metal. When I was a swabbie- we used to say "sold to Gillette".. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Aeroscout Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 It's headed to Philly- I think that means eventual scrap metal. When I was a swabbie- we used to say "sold to Gillette".. That's too bad. I like viper101s idea, have it as a place to have a tomcat land once in a while. (give people rides? lol that would be cool! I'd pay for that!) VMFA-Blaze Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 So would I, but we don't get to make those kinds of decisions. Heh...make the average guy pay higher taxes so a band of millionaires has a nicer place to play football...people seem to be all for it. Ask them to pay to sustain a working exhibit of American history...well...they have better things to do. Our priorities are in the wrong place. :( Actually my first post on this thread was supposed to be about the original carrier the USS Enterprise that had been docked in a slip on the Hudson River on the West Side of Manhattan for about 20 years.. It was a floating museum that was open to the public... It had various aircraft strapped to the flight deck and you could sit in the cockpits of some of them... About 2 months ago the ship was moved to dry dock to undergo extensive restoration... But it took thousands of dollars just to get it out of the slip as it sunk into the mud after all of that time.... I happened to be over on the West Side of town on the day that it was finally pulled out and caught the view of the tugs moving the ship down the Hudson heading for dry dock... It looked Majestic to say the least even in its present state... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR
