I've been looking forward to the F/18C from DCS...but right now I'm really disappointed! I can't say that I'm an expert armchair pilot, but I have quite a few of the modules from DCS such the Harrier, F-5, Viggen etc and I don't seem to have a problem with basic flight. The only problem I have is learning all the different systems for each aircraft.

I was so eager to download the F/18C and try it out. The first thing I did was Instant Mission: Carrier Takeoff. On all of my modules I assign the Thrust/Throttle to my throttle control slider. Anyways...I'm ready for take off...all visuals indicate I'm at full throttle...launch, gear up...flaps to auto...etc.

Go to external view, visuals show afterburner, gear up etc...but wait, somehow I'm losing airspeed...in the drink!

I've read some of the comments on the Hornet and it seems that I must be the only one with a 'lemon'. Or maybe I'm missing something? Even some of the default keyboard bindings don't work such Speed brake, Wheel Brake. The default keyboard binding for the thrust is numpad + & - but even that doesn't work! My other aircraft don't seem to have any problem, just the F/18C. So, before I rip a hole in my computer screen and kick the living hell out of my computer casing...could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or if someone else is having similar issues?

From an experienced group: We sat in Discord for an hour and it all started with clearing the entire controller bindings and binding every button in a discussion.

We never assume it's all done for us, and this was not different for the Hornet, the only things bound were views to the trim hat which we immediately deleted.

You just have to assign your buttons.

I concur, I spent the first 40 minutes building a control setup before I even "sat" in the jet.

I doubt that you have a lemon as you put it, just that you jumped into the deep end before being able to swim.

If you own a lot of modules you should know by now that all your controllers gets assigned to throttle / rudder / pitch / roll all at once by default. You need to clear these at the least and set them the way you like them. Hardly a lemon. PEBCAK.

Yep this, first thing I did was go into controls and clear all axis assignments out.

Then did my own axis assignments.

Not a single issue taking off from Carrier on first attempt.

Sorry to read your dispointment :( But on my side, every time i buy a new module, no matter which one, i always start by setting up bindings etc.. Either in DCS or other games, so i never get surprises, that's also a way for me to find out what is being implemented now as axis or not. As i long time ago, realised my rudder category (CH Pro Pedal column) always have all axis set in htere as i only need the Rudder input, so i always clear the entire category under my Pro Pedals and rebind etc to avoid conflicts with other categorie's input... I guess that's why i never end up having surprises.

Yeah...thanks guys! Maybe a 'Lemon' was a poor choice of words, but like I said...I'm not an expert armchair pilot and I don't spend all my time in DCS, and I'm not that stupid. I do know how to re-bind the keys as with the modules I already have. Even with rebinding...they are still not working correctly on the F/18C for me!

For the take-off - if you press the take-off trim button, connect to the cat, apply full power then let go of the stick & launch, it should just fly itself off.

What happens if you try that ?

Cheers.

Removing all bindings, will this work for axis as well? I have no throttle on the ground, it's fine if I start in the air!

For cold start you need to bring the throttle to idle, (just like the F5 and A10) with rshift-home and ralt-home for right and left engines.

You need to go Axis separately to clear the category.

"Axis" and "All" are separated that way.

Nufsed,

If you're unable to move the throttles during a cold start, try Rshift+Home and Ralt+Home. These are the default keybindings that move the throttles to idle from shutdown.

Or bind the idle/cut off to the throttles by moving them in and out of the detent position.

It is essential to set up the controls before you do anything else. When you're in the cockpit, moving the throttles back and forwards without going into afterburner will soon show if they're correctly bound or not.

For carrier take off, just push the throttles into afterburner and the launch is automatic.

It is hardly fair to suggest a module is a lemon just because you haven't worked through the correct bindings, and ensured they are working. ED have extensively tested the module before launch, and if you have any doubts about it working, check out the numerous videos produced by both Wags and the guys lucky enough to get an Alpha copy.

I'm sure they felt great when you went off on one instead of reading the manual where it says before you start, set up the controls!

Hi Weta43,

It doesn't work! The default bindings and re-assigned bindings are just not working? I'm using a wireless keyboard & mouse and changed it back to wired thinking that it may be the problem. My other modules don't have any issues.

No problems here. You said afterburner is on so maybe you must be hitting something else. Maybe a video would illustrate the problem more.

Thanks Guys, been away for while so I'm quite rusty

I had F18E controls set on another SIM (Which I no longer fly) I was able to cross reference them and set the DCS bird up in about an hours or so

Same problem here. Full afterburner and max speed about 150 -200. A A10C will have no problem win this race. Another thing is that if I hit "G" on the keyboard the gear not go up. It does not even help to assign the keys to the stick. Air brake, flaps...nothing seem to work. In top of that when I fly the F18 in Caucasus map, the game not freeze but suddently goes back to the screen where I can select to go back to mission builder or fly again.

EDIT: I had selected sim mode in options but forgot to do it in mission editor. Now it Works. Hopefully they will fix the problem in game mode too.

Any recommended Pitch / Roll axis settings for F18C? Right now I am way over sensitive.

thanks

I went for 20 on pitch and roll at the moment. Using CH joystick, don't like going anymore then 20 as the end travel so too much. I wish VBK would get sorted with their gunfighter controllers.
