worth a read, even if you don't intend to buy AMD or anything now.

Intel devs should read it, TWICE !

Both CPU's are Unlocked, those 30$ more for the X is just binning and for out-of-the-box boost speeds. For overclocking you will get varied mileage, but beware that people are reporting less success bringing vanilla 2700's to X levels than it was for 1700 to X levels.

Even within the same SKU people are reporting wildly different max memory speeds. I got lucky and I am the few who can run 32 GB's at 3533 but some cant even go past 3200 with just 2 sticks of same manufacturer (SAMSUMG B-DIE). But that should be sufficient.

For me it was worth the change from 1700X to 2700X, because in single thread gaming it brought me 16% more minimum FPS and I still saved money because this years pricing on memory and GFX gotten so high that it covered the extra 320€ I paid for the new CPU.

Note: it will run the same on the older motherboards as the new ones. The only difference between X370 and X470 lies in the new storage Mi tech that for me is not worth because biting the bullet for a full main SSD is the way to go, no reason to cheap out a high end system and create a bottleneck there if you can afford it anyway.

I think I'd still buy the 2700x but I had no problem recommending the 2700 if you need to look for 20€ here and 30€ there to get the rig done.

At the end of the day, luck will be with you...or not. Satanic Dies

Just built my 2700x system today. I haven't configured much, but the heatsink that comes with the 2700x is impressive for a "stock" cooler. It was one of the easiest builds I've ever done.

Still a lot of tweaking to do...

Congrats gavagai. With the stock cooler maybe its not worth to be too daring with overclocks. Just make sure it can boost to the advertised boost speeds by, for example, choosing the high performance power plan. If you leave on balanced it will be more conservative or hold the boost for less time.

other than that I would only overclock the memory to at least 3200 Mhz to get the most out of it.

Yes, for now all I've done is to enable the xmp profile for the ram at 3.2ghz. The boosted clock speed is confirmed at 4.3ghz with cpuid.

I have a liquid cooler and my temps are almost 10/20°c higher then with the 1700x

...same motherboard as before...

It is normal?

I cannot be at 4.3...maximum i got stable is 4.275

Did you raise your voltage?

I am not good at overclocking so i use Ryzen Master...did you use BIOS settings?i cannot understand anything there

Base clock is still at 3.7ghz. 4.3ghz is just the boost frequency that you see in the description. I haven't done anything to the cpu in the bios; everything except the ram is set to "auto."

I max out at 85 degrees Celsius with prime95 using the stock cooler, if that helps you as a reference point.

Ok in DCS with without OC i see 4000 usually max 4100.... outside sometimes i see 4200

Which motherboard do you have?

Which sticks?

Thanks

My temps are 65/70 max....with 1700x i had 45/55

So probably it is normal and due to the 105w tdp of the new chip

I do NOT think those temps are OK.

Iirc the reviews I read had ~70°C when they overclocked to 4.2 all cores and primed it with small FFT's.

I dunno, but if I was you I would take the cooler off, check the TIM mating and do it again.

There should be plenty reviews out by now that tell you cornerstone temps that make it easier to judge if your cooling is a bit off normal operations.

Some boards use artificial temperature offsets, not to mention that there are more than one temperature sensors and some apps are reading wrong, it's a mess. You need to research for your motherboard BIOS options too see if there is such offset, and what apps can read the correct values. I use hwinfo 64 and it reads 2 different te. PS for that cpu, you need to choose the correct o é and hide the other one

I read temps from Ryzen Master and from Afterburner while in game

I cleaned cpu and cooler twice and reapplied thermal paste after having installed the new chip...so i am pretty sure it is ok

Not all CPUs will reach a given frequency at the same voltage, which means temps may vary. The Ryzen+ CPUs TjMax is 95C. You could theoretically get near that doing prime small fft and be fine because real world average workloads will never get anywhere close. My 2700 only gets up to 4150Mhz, hitting 84C with small fft, where as cinebench maxes out at 72C. It requires 1.388v and is cooled with a Noctua NH-D15.

disable Sense Mi in bios (the referred temperature offset) and use SVI2 TFN voltage sensors within HWinfo 64.
I don't know of what you are talking....

Cannot find anything similar to sense mi in my bios....my motherboard is msi x370 gaming plus....

Then i don't know what is svi2 tfn..can you give me a step to step guide?sorry...but i am not an overclocking or similar expert

Anyway i discovered that the temps reported in ryzen master are 10 degrees lower that the one reported in Afterburner...so when i am using dcs i have 66° reported from Afterburner and 56° by ryzen master...

So the difference between 2700x and previous 1700x is just 5-8 degrees

Someone knows how to disable sense mi in msi x370 motherboard?

I looked into every bios menu of my motherboard but cannot find this setting.

Thanks
