[CANNOT REPRODUCE] ATC doesn’t answer Hornet request calls

Recommended Posts

Maybe I missed something.

After entering TWR Freq on the FUC and call ATC for e.g. start-up I don’t get any answer.

What I did:

Example for Khasab (Gulf map)

TWR FREQ 124.350 (FM) taken from map

binding COMM sw (RAlt+\) to key 17 of Throttle

on the FUC:

Left COM click/push to ON

click :FM

left COM selector dial to M

CLR

via scratch pad enter 124.350

ENT

call key 17 COM menu, e.g. ATC, start-up (F5, F1, F3)

No reply. What’s wrong here? Thanks for letting me know.

I've been having similar issues with radio comms. I'm sure there's something weird going on with the COMM 1/2 switches getting mixed up.

With the frequency still set to COMM 1, could you try RCtl+\ and see if that works?

You may need to press and hold the "ENT" key for 3 seconds. I've been told it will blink but I haven't had time to check it out.

I'm not sure entering the frequency is the problem. That should be indicated by the comms menus being greyed out.

The problems I've been experiencing are when the menus are white, which suggests the channels are set accordingly. Will try record a track this evening.

I've had this happen to, usually it works on the second or third push, but sometimes you don't have time to sit a fiddle with it for that long.

I think there are some bugs with the Tacan and also the radio com system.

Yes sometimes i do actual help holding in the Enter key for example 3 seconds, els the com frq just dissaper sometimes.

Sometimes i notised that example when it say tacan channel 55X, then i need to trype 55Y instead for making example a refuel plane show up in the hornets system.

And regarding the com, then sometimes I had to select AM instead of FM and then the radio system work.

As i said i think it might be a bug, not sure if it happne to you guys.

Did you bind COM or COMM1 to your comm activation button?

COM1 = left com

COM2 = right com

COM = general com not related to radios

I’m getting even more confused.

Under the Control Option Menu I have assigned:

“COMM Switch - COM 1” (which has keyboard default “RAlt+\”)

to my throttle switch 17 (as an example)

and

“COMM Switch - COM 2” (which has keyboard default “RCtrl+\”)

to my throttle switch 18 (as an example)

After entering the FM FREQ via M dial to UFC COMM1 or to UFC COMM2 I’m then using my switches 17 or 18 to recall “Communication Menu”

(which is usually avbl under the keyboard key “\”)

No radio response. What is wrong here? What is the catch?

I'm not complaining if this is an early access issue, it would be fine with me.

I just want make sure that I haven't done anything stupidly wrong.

See also this thread. I feel sure there's a MP issue in regards to radios, because my buddy and I were able to consistently repeat the issue. Haven't had any more game time in order to get a track but if someone can replicate the issue that would be awesome.

pls note that I'm having this issue in SP mode, didn't check MP.

just want to say that I think the com Mix up AM and FM Frq so next time you guys have problems with the radio try to change AM to FM or FM to AM.

Sometimes when i enter a radio channel that in the briefing say example

251.000 AM then i actual have to type 251.000 FM to make it work.

I had this issue with the c130 refuel plane.

I have found that having “Easy Comms” enabled in the gameplay settings (cog on home screen) does funny things to the F/A-18 radio comms function, it seems like easy comms only programs comm2 regardless of which radio button is pressed.

I’ve found that if it gets stuck, no replies etc, then rotating the comm2 dial to any numbered preset and then trying again usually works. Comm2 will flip to channel “M” and auto tune the frequency. It will work until any other button is pressed in the cockpit, where it will get stuck again, then you have to select a numbered preset again.

Please see the top right, above the comm menu selections, when you press the Comm1 or 2 button, if it says “AUTO” you will experience shaninigans,

If it says “COMM1-ARC120” or “COMM2-ARC120” then it works much better but it will not auto tune frequencies and the specific radio will have to be tuned to the correct frequency of the unit/airfield you are trying to reach.

That sounds very similar to what I've been experiencing. Wasn't aware I had easy comms selected, but will check it out. Thanks.

Thanks Brun - to be honest, up to now I've never looked into the GAMEPLAY folder because I had (wrongly) considered this folder to be for playing GAME mode only.

Turning off easy comms fixed my issues immediately. Thanks again to @jonsky7 for the heads-up.
