Thymo Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 What exactly do you mean by "FLAPs override", the gain override switch? Flaps are always set half (or full) on landing.
JIMJAM Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 (edited) I am usually really, really into realism even if it makes the flight model feel cheap or being difficult but in this case I am all ears. I LOVED the old F104 Starfighter which had numerous things that if you were not dead on you were literally "dead". The Hornet has a throttle response as slow as a 50s jet, a trim that feels like it is connected with rubber bands and a morphing config changing at critical times, base, final, etc is a real handful. Which is "ok" but I also jump around from 6 other aircraft. Currently I have about a 30-40% success rate catching a wire and 60% or so missing a wire or planting the "crash by wire" Hornet into the front of the moving runway. All that said I would not want it any other way but looking forward to trying to lock in the flaps. Edited June 9, 2018 by JIMJAM
VFA41_Lion Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 That was an interesting go at it. A lot more stick movement rather than the usual trimming for pitch.

What's the best for landing : half or full? russhin Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 What's the best for landing : half or full? I second this question (for Carrier, at 30,000lbs) Used to fly a plane once in a while, now I fly a chair every day! (7800K 5Ghz OC, EVGA 1080, 16Gigs, SSD, AIO)
HawkDCS Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 (edited) Full flaps are for Carrier traps regardless of weight. More Flaps = Lower Approach Speed and more safety margin for carrier traps. Ahmed Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I wouldn't call it 'easier', it just allows you to use a different technique that you may be more familiar with in flight sims. Personally I found it more counter-intuitive than PA mode. Whether the behavior of the FCS/FM in gain override is correct is for the former drivers to judge. The PA FCS and FM may still need some iterations to refine them, and don't forget that one of the big challenges of carrier landings, the burble, is not present in the sim currently, with the closest workaround being including some turbulence into the mission to make it a little bit more challenging.
dburne Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Yes I always land on the carrier with full flaps.
