Sarge55 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Way better than I am at the moment, nice job. One thing I noticed was you didn't offset from the carrier enough to see the deck when you passed over it before the break. FistofZen Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Any landing you don't need to swim from is a good landing. Am I special?
JOJOZ Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 (edited) Hey nice one, well done!! Some tips if you want (modestly) After the 180° and during the downwind you have to be at 600'. Pull the gears and flaps at 250' and start your 90° earlier. The 90° starts when the tip of your wing arrives at the level of the LSO platform approximately, or when you begin to see the back of the carrier, because you were "long in the groove" I think you need to adjust your trim correctly while your downwind. Sorry for my bad English, i'm not ;) Edited June 12, 2018 by JOJOZ
ApacheDoctor Posted June 12, 2018 Author Posted June 12, 2018 Thanks for the advice guys, greatly appreciate it. Had dinner with some VMAT-101 guys here at IWA the other day. They said you should barely be able to see the carrier on the break and actually have to "lean" over to see the carrier on the break pass.
Flamin_Squirrel Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 You're not supposed to move the stick fore/aft to control glide slope. Trim for on speed, then throttle control only. It's tricky, but rewarding when you get it right.

ApacheDoctor Posted June 12, 2018 Author Posted June 12, 2018 Thanks guys, more to practice. Just got the Warthog HOTAS too, so that might help with some of the difficulties I have been having.
David OC Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I have been consolidating some info about the slow speed behavior when landing the F-18.
