monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 purchased the FA-18 yesterday and installed with no issue, had all updates installed up to 6-20-18 update on open alpha. tried to update with updater and ended up with the error : Can't move D:\DCS world 2 open alpha\_downloads\bin/DCS.exe to D:\DCS World 2 Open Alpha\bind/DCS.exe: 183 Cannot create a file when that file already exists. At this point when I try to start the open alpha exe it says it doesnt exist and yada yada yada. I deleted the _download folder and am attempting a repair. Any ideas is that doesn't work, and please don't tell me a full install, lol. Sager Laptop, i7-6700k 4.00GHz, 16GB RAM, GTX 980M, 1920x1080, TIR 5, Windows 10
feefifofum Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Did you transition your OA installation to OpenBeta using the command prompt or Skatezilla's GUI? The Open Alpha branch no longer exists; as of the 2.5 merge there is only stable and OpenBeta. If you need help converting your installation check out this guide or Skatezilla's GUI. monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 Nope missed that one, great now I bet it's totally messed up. As this point I have no idea what to do since I've tried to update it twice and the .exe file seems to be missing. Don't want to reinstall everything but this doesn't look good. monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 I'll just run a repair for now, without the .exe file not sure what else I can do. Going to take several hours to download the repair. Any suggestions on a full clean reinstall where I can at least try to save some of the repaints and control inputs I've put in over the past year? Any suggestions on a full clean reinstall where I can at least try to save some of the repaints and control inputs I've put in over the past year? Make a copy of your DCS folder in your saved games directory and rename it. Then, after you do your reinstall, you can copy the specific aircraft input files into your new saved games folders. After you do that, you can start up DCS and your inputs will be all set. When all else fails, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! i-7 8700K Coffee Lake 5 GHz OC CPU, 32GB Corsair 3200 RAM, GTX1080 Ti 11Gb VRAM. monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 Thanks for the info, I've coped saved games folder for DCS just in case. I'm hoping the repair can at least get me back to the point where I can update the alpha into open beta. Very frustrating as you can imagine. SkateZilla Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 This Occurs when: A System Process (DCS Itself or Virus Protection), Locks the File so It cannot be modified by another Process (ie the Updater). Run Repair to restore missing Files, Reboot Your PC and Try the Update Process Again. If it has the same problem, then it's a Virus Protection Suite. In which case, disable it, or Whitelist the entire DCS Folder. Updating from Open Alpha isnt Recommended, Just Start w/ a Fresh Release or Open Beta Install. monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 Ok thanks SkateZilla, I'll continue with the repair and try again. But it looks like a fresh install of open Beta is going to have to occur, not a fun prospect of moving all my repaints over again. Mods should not be in the /DCS World/ Folder, They should Re-side in the /Saved Games/DCS.install/ Folder in Which case a Re-install would not touch them. monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 Ok, well many of my repaints are in the world folder, maybe everything has changed over the last couple of years and I didn't get the message. It's a bit of a whirlwind of changes over the past year so I'm sure I'm not as current as I could be as to where the new liveries should be placed. I can just copy them over at some point and install open Beta into another folder, and then when I'm done with it all uninstall open alpha. At least I hope that is possible. monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 As for swapping the Open Alpha into Open Beta, can the GUI from Skatezilla do that for me or would I just be best off with fresh install of Open Beta? Sager Laptop, i7-6700k 4.00GHz, 16GB RAM, GTX 980M, 1920x1080, TIR 5, Windows 10
monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 OK, thanks for all the advice guys. The repair was a success and now I'm just wondering if I should reboot and disable malwarebytes as instructed and then try to update through Skatezillas GUI. Right now the open alpha is at update 4. I guess I just don't understand if I'm at the end of the road with this install and I need to do full Beta install or can I actually update this to become Open Beta? ED Team c0ff Posted June 25, 2018 ED Team Posted June 25, 2018 can I actually update this to become Open Beta? Yes, you can, just be careful. However, if your alpha install path is in the registry, then installing either OpenBeta or the release will pull suitable files from it, so traffic will mostly be the same. Dmitry S. monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 Thanks for the quick help guys, I need to read up more before I try to update OA to OB though. Part of me wants to just do the Open Beta fresh install and move things over and uninstall the OA just so I'm working with a cleaner slate. At the moment I'm just happy to having a working sim again. monkie Posted June 25, 2018 Author Posted June 25, 2018 Ok so after running the repair and then using the GUI from Skatezilla and also turning off my Malwarebytes after rebooting I was able to succesfully update to 2.5.2 18736.400 One last question, does this mean that I'm technically running Open Beta now? I might have been incorrect in saying I was using the Open Alpha in the first place since I had updated to 2.5.2 already. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. thanks again for all the help.
