I'm posting this because I had tried ALL other suggestions without success before figuring out my one and only cause of stutter in 2.5 (which would last for 3-5 seconds...).

And the culprit is...... MALWAREBYTES!

I no longer experience any stutter when I quit MBAM prior to loading the sim.

Hopefully it will help someone.

I'm sure it will help at least some people, I don't use MWB, but thanks for the tip anyway :)

its been stated from long time that it is highly reccomended to not run any anti-virus/anti-malwatre with DCS

Be careful with that. I just experienced a nasty malware attack by running without an antivirus program. What I was doing is shutting down Windows defender before running my flight sims (DCS and X-Plane). The malware/Trojans and rootkit, was causing my PC to reboot every five to ten minutes or so. I racked my brain troubleshooting all day yesterday. Practically disassembled my PC that I built over a year ago.

Disconnected all but one SSD, took out all four sticks of Ram and ran with one stick at a time. Ran memtest, updated BIOS, etc. Nothing fixed the problem, so I started to suspect my power supply. As a last resort, I decided to run malwarebytes again (ran it previously and cleaned out malware), but this time AFTER booting into SAFE MODE.

Bingo! It detected more Trojans and a Rootkit that it hadn't found before! After I quarantined them and rebooted in normal mode (Windows 10), my PC ran fine. I played DCS for over two hours straight with no issues.

So far, so good.

I like Windows 10 and definitely have better gaming performance over Windows 7, but I've found out awhile ago that disabling Windows Update in task manager/services, eliminated my stutter problems. Be sure to check that. Windows updates causes me the most problems in Windows 10.

Also turn off telemetry (Windows and Nvidia if you have one of their GPUs).

I won't be running MWB or any third party anti-virus in the background, but from now on, I'll keep Windows Defender running!

As well as doing regular malware scans in safe mode.

Always use a USB Bootstick with Linux to verify hardware first. Saves many hours fixing the wrong end first until you find out it's not the HW, it's the damn software.

Running a Windows PC without antivirus is like driving a car without safety-belt. Good luck!

Sounds like a good idea. But I could have saved myself all the trouble by just booting into safe mode first and running a malware/virus scan. :music_whistling:

Any suggestions for the USB bootstick, and will it detect a failing power supply?

Because according to my research, my PC symptoms were very similar to a failing PSU.

Mine is almost five years old, which is also why it was suspect.

A Corsair TX-750, which is still running strong.

I've build and run multiple pc since 1999 , I've never used anti-virus softwares on my machines, only a proper firewall within my router and never had a problem .

Windows defender is just fine and there's no need imho for external anti-viruses programs nowadays.

I use MBAM pro and I regularly get malicious file warnings during DCS update torrents - so if you are going to switch it off, don't do it whilst updating (allowing it to block the suspicious connections has never made updating slower for me).

Note this is for updating with the torrent method, not http but I would still leave it on for any kind of updates.

Windows Defender has repeatedly quarantined my product downloads (notably every download from Just Flight) - I refuse to trust it.

There are many different approaches to IT Security and all are valid as long as nothing bad happens Goa.

You may have built your own PC's successfully and never got infected for decades but that cannot and should not be translated to other users, that is a very dangerous undertaking.

I have seen hits of 40.000+ mails on exchange servers and I have seen idiots at work opening anything you sent them. Two far apart extremes but it all meets at the security layer you lay out, or not.

my systems/servers till today never went down due to a Virus or attack, some luck involved for sure, but I do know that if I had not deployed security layers where needed and advised, certain servers and Desktops private and corporate, would have been infected, some encrypted ( real bad ) causing severe money loss and loss of private email and photos for the usual suspects.

You can run cheap Antivirus at home, i did till 3h ago, i ran kaspersky Antivirus Free edition for a few months and this night I decided to go back to Avira Pro, I own a lic till dec.`19, so I installed that one. I have run Defender solely too but dont feel properly secured with it. It got better but misses a few settings I need. The best taste left Kaspersky Full Edition, that I will buy again if I buy again Dec 2019. Till then likely Avira Pro

Proper Firewall within your Router ?

Unless you run a HighEnd Firewall with lots of knowledge behind, this is nonsense. It adds nothing to the security a Virus Scanner would give you.

99% of all users I dare to say run home networks on ordinary NAT based routers, usually Linux. There is no active protection built into those devices. All they do is NAT and Portforwarding with a few services aside like DynDNS, VPN, etc. That is not the same as a firewall that has i.e. Kaspersky built in for http smtp ftp, an IPS and IDS, DPI and much much more for 10k+€. YOu definitely do not want to game on such a device. I own one and have no interest for using that at home. No, routers at home add not much to security if you are surfing the net actively. NAT is for keeping 3rd guys out if you stay calm but once you go out and generate traffic, NAT is obsolete, not it's job frankly speaking. HighEnd firewalls are so care intensiv with Rules and ports and protocols that you would never consider them for home usage unless you happen to get 1 for free like I did and also have the knowledge how to run it. Then, knowing what effort it is, you pack it back up and fire up the simple but good enough Fritz!Box Router and call it a day, maybe update Avira right away ;)

btw I'm still running MBAM Pro but I fixed my stutter problem by lowering tree/grass settings and the PD :)

I never said, you would have to use an external anti-virus program. And by the way, what is Windows Defender? Couldn't it be an anti-virus program?
