Doum76 Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 (edited) (Take a beer, sit down, put some music on as you read this novel) We all have our own little challenges, achievement we get to become proud of, we worked hard for.... for me, it was Case 1, back then in FSX starting with the default Hornet's with it's bad FM, then VRS SuperHornet, damn did i worked hard those days to be able to, but i was just praticing the landing pattern itself, taking off dirty, get to 600 ft downwind etc... Then came ED's Hornet, which is learning from scratch as what FM and closer to reality model came along. With now VR, it brings the fun and challenge to another level. The Hornet is my all time favorite aicraft, and the fun for Carrier landings is without words, but damn did i worked hard trying to get close to those addictive numbers... i just trained differently from FSX, i mean, now i was practing Holding Patterns, Spinning turn and breaks and pattern all together... so many times once or the other i skrewed up.... i still do. :) But now i'm becoming at a point i'm proud of the progress (i might be now at over 150-160 practice routine, yeah that's mainly what i did since it came out, the otehr system sand stuff were here and there but getting this bird on a carrier deck was « Ze » thing as french would say. :) For some it's easy learning, for me, was hard to execute, yeah i'm a slow learner. :( So enough of my life segment boring you guys. Just felt like sharing a track of my finaly better progress, soon i guess i'll head for Case III, though i really love Case 1, in VR the beauty of DCS is amazing, at night unfortunately, all the details are mostly gone to admire. So basicly my training was taking off from shore, getting in at holding pattern altitude, going in for a turn into the break altitude but going in for a spinning turn and back for the break and land. I'm not on all by the book numbers, but that is mostly how best my skills allow me, after all, i'm jsut a arm chair pilot, i'm alowed to do mistakes as i'm trying to reproduce the infos/numbers/distances and how to execute them as much as i think i understand them. :) So here's my amateur track, 2.5.2 Open Beta latest patch (Sorry for the weird angle, it was done in VR, and since younger i craked my neck, my head is slightly angled right, so it gives wird replays in VR as i think it'S right, but watching the replays shows me it's not lol). Might be boring or wrongly made for lot of you guys, but for a lot of you guys on the other side, that worked hard to get close to these numbers procedures, how proud you felt or feel when you suceed stages of it, well that is how i feel now these few days. :smartass: Less :joystick: and more :pilotfly: (PS: I found out, taking off from shore and land on the carrier once, gives you a sync replay, but as soon as you touch the carrier, either taking off from it, touch and go or trap, it 99% of the time on my side skrews up the replay as i brings in some weird altitude missmatch, you end up for some reason loosing about 200 ft, so the break ends up being at 500-600 ft instead of 800 ft and ends up in a crash)QUAL-FA18-03 (full).trk Edited July 22, 2018 by Doum76
David OC Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Sounds like your having heaps of fun with case 1 Doum76.:) I'm in the middle of setting up a mission for Case III on the Persian Gulf map. To not lose all the "beauty and details" at night, I start at 1800 and fly out of Al Dhafra Air Base, bomb a few trucks on Sir Abu Island, then head NE intercept two F-5's (Test A2A) on the way up to Khasab Airport and then around into Gulf of Oman where the carrier awaits and the sun is setting. I had a moment, quite surreal and beautiful moment... i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Download PDF Tutorial guides to help get up to speed with aircraft quickly and also great for taking a good look at the aircraft available for DCS before purchasing. I do like it, specialy that ever since i bought DCS with the A-10c back in 2010, droping bombs has been there, yes different as new aircrafts comes along, but droping a MK-82 on a Mirage, A-10C or Hornet or even AV-85, is still, droping a MK-82, same as shooting a Maverick. But Carrier landing is something new, i had quite a blast with the AV-8B doing it until Hornet comes along. I love doing the two most patience burners stuffs, Carrier landing and Air Refueling, i suck at tactical stuff, so i do what i'm a bit better :) Sunset and Dawn, the two most beutiful moments in DCS. Will look forward for your mission :) Edited July 22, 2018 by Doum76
David OC Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Welcome aboard DucS2r I was into all those sims too. I was searching for a good sim many years back now and come across the DCS A-10C in 2012 and went wow how did I miss this! These sims have come along way. You wait till you try DCS in VR if you get a chance, it will blow you away. Think of it like putting on a motorbike helmet and looking out 360 degrees into the DCS world, it puts you in the plane, takes a bit to get used to. i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Download PDF Tutorial guides to help get up to speed with aircraft quickly and also great for taking a good look at the aircraft available for DCS before purchasing. arkroyale048 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 I too have been enjoying the Hornet simply just landing the thing back into the boat. I've rarely gone into combat with it as of now. There is indeed a certain sense of achievement when you get it right. In my case I've found Case II and III's to be mentally exhausting yes, but overall easier to do. With Case I, I just cant seem to get those damn turns right. Plus altitude management. Irregular streamer: http://www.twitch.tv/arkroyale048/profile
FZG_Immel Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Very nice. I enjoyed your track ! SlapStik Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 It's great to read about people with the same interest, experiences and history with flight sims..... This DCS F/A-18 is like a Birthday gift that just keeps on giving! I've managed a couple of case III traps but am amazed that no matter how many case I traps I make, I still screw up and have bolters.... kinda reminds me of playing golf! wurger13 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 I'm so old I started out with sublogic's JET and was blown away by the first 2 color version of Falcon! LOL I have to agree though, flying this F18 and landing on the boat, case I, II, or III is some of the most satisfying flying I've done on the PC. I've finally got my head around it and the muscle memory on my throttle hand to be fairly consistent. Doum76 Posted July 25, 2018 Author Posted July 25, 2018 (edited) Very nice. I enjoyed your track ! Now do it with weather and a 250ft visibility ;) Don't worry my friend, i will when times comes, i'm in no rush, as i already did it in FSX with the SuperHornet or in DCS with the A-10c, M-2000c and UH-1H, if i could do it with the Huey, i will for sure with the Hornet, i just have more of a blast doing carrier ops when i can admire the background ;) But i will sure have to add it to my collectiong on IFR/IMC and challenges :) they are never perfect but i get there in one pice, that's enough :) Ugly graphics old FSX SuperHornet: DCS M-2000C: DCS A-10C DCS UH-1H Edited July 25, 2018 by Doum76
Doum76 Posted July 25, 2018 Author Posted July 25, 2018 I am an old timer who used to be into PC flight sims, back to the EA, Janes, Falcon 4 days. plus Chuck Yeager, etc. I gave up on sims when my kids got into the play stations, etc. and thought they would never return. Found out about ED a few months back and feel like I have been reborn. I love getting into a new sim, F 18, from the ground up. Just starting to feel comfortable with Case 1. Welcome aboard and among us. I also started a while ago, my first sim ever was F-15 Strike Eagle on my old 386... time changed since then :)
Florence201 Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Quick question on this subject guys. How do I know what ILS channel to use? Creating a dusk into night carrier qual missions and i've got the Tacan sorted but don't know how to add an ILS channel to Stennis? Is it auto added? Thanks [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
