So I use an X-55 by Saitek (FOR NOW!) and I'm so done with them. I constantly get un-commanded key commands and this was a result. So while on the ball I was coming in, fully configured, and this happens! No time at all for power to come up. I got the gear call and alarm as my gear retracted itself, got on the throttles and still fell out of the sky into the "1". Don't know how but thought would make a funny pic, so here you go!

Recently another thread on this that was moved out of bug section. A quick net search reveals common problems with x55/56 errant key commands due to a couple different issues. In some cases its reported as being due to underpower. Solved by using a powered usb hub. In others cases its due to cross cable interference. I had the latter. I was able to solve the problem by rerouting the joystick cables to keep them further away from cables from other devices like my trackir, headphones etc.

(Wasnt moved, just marked as “cant reproduce.” Its a hardware issue not a dcs/hornet issue and is reported in other forums like elite dangerous. But then again you never suggested it was, just sharing :) )

all my cables are bundled except for my sticks, they are also routed a different way, guess just for how I have everything placed. But it doesn't matter what game it is I get those same un-commanded actions. They are at random times too, thought it may be my VoiceAttack but happenes with that shut down too. Usually ill be at FL200 @400kts and I just drop from the sky they I get the Gear audible. This pic, this time was a first. I thought about a powered USB because I get tired of having to shut down and disconnect to play other games. Im looking at going VR and maybe Thrustmaster soon.

I’ve always seen cables wrapped around magnets to reduce interference/magnetic waves. I believe it’s usually on power cables covered in hard plastic two inches long and finger width diameter.

Ehhhh... I dunno if it's solved by that. Mine was reduced but certainly not solved. Then once the wires inside started to go bad it got worse. I moved to a vkb stick and waiting for their throttle.

As I said, there are multiple reported causes. It has been completely resolved for me (so far) by rerouting and keeping the cables clear.

try this fix.

Regarding the X55 then I have no such issues with mine as the keys all of a sudden do something by the self..

TIP..: To avoid random things happening then I highly recommend you to plug your x55 into usb 3.0 ports ( the blue usb ports ).

Reason are usb 3.0 provide more power, and they are backwards compatible with your joysticks 2.0 usb's.

i know from experience that many users have found my above tip usefull and i hope it can help you ;-)

( it will however not fix the issue where the joystick do strange things in other games... you have to center the trust handle els sometimes in menus in other games it can effect example drop down menus ).

You are describing 2 separate issues with X55. First, the ghost presses, with my old computer I used a powered hub, which mostly solved the ghost press issues. My new computer has lots of USB 3.0, so I plug directly into those and have no issues at all now.

The other issue, about centering the thrust handle, has to do with poor quality wiring in the throttle that wears out with throttle movement. It’s a hardware issue but can be fixed by opening the bottom of the housing and taping up the wires, before they wear through.

Incidentally, the new X56 (the grey model) is supposed to fix all these issues, and has more axis (with push down buttons that would nicely mimic TDC depress). I’m tempted to upgrade...

I have the new version. All the wires inside the throttle are very neat and tidy and theyve even put a magnet on them to try to reduce the interference problem. It still happens though. I’m not aware of any additional functions over the older model but I didnt have one so cant say for sure without looking it up.

The first thing I tried is hooking up to a powered usb hub as is often touted as solving the ghost input issues but it didnt help. Putting distance between cables did.

(Did a quick search, I believe the only change in controls was between the older (mil themed) x-55 and the (blue) x-56. There is no difference in controls between the grey (new logitech) and blue (old saitek) x56. They just altered the type of plastic used and improved the work quality (wiring and tolerances.) That and perhaps the ROM to make it compatible with logitech software. It still requires its own software though and doesnt work with logitechs software for mice, keyboard etc. )
