Here's my issue: I can fly for about 5 minutes with 120 FPS, then everything goes black and locks up, with a "VPU Recovery" error.... I don't get it though, because one second everything is perfectly smooth, then BAM!.

Here's my specs:

MSI K8N800 motherboard

AMD 64 3300+

1Gb RAM

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

All updated drivers

I do have an ATI 9250 PCI card, but that one sucks so bad for this game. I get about 5-10 FPS compared with 100-120 with the 9800. Can anyone help???

I bet you're overclocking the video card... if not check for overheating.

PS: Also you don't need to have 120fps so enable V-Sync

And how are you managing to get 120fps???

probably low visibility/scenery settings... or maybe looking at the sky?

I remember when I first tried out Catalyst 7.4 where the AA and AF didn't work I was getting around 80fps flying high in F-15 quick mission and that's because the V-Sync didn't work either (otherwise I get 60fps max) so I guess 120fps with medium settings is possible?

Either way... his system (probably due to graphics card or drivers) is very unstable.

That is almost a match for my system specs and I dont get half those FPS either.

Hog what is your PSU brand and capacity? Either its a PSU problem or a driver issue. Im using very old KAT here I think its like 5.4 or something (even older than ATI 1900 cards). You might want to get older drivers and check your power suply capacity for your card. Also some 9800 cards can run for a while without the auxliarly power plug on before they crap themselves up in the midle of gaming. You might check that out as well. I bought a new 550W PSU a few months back because my OEM 400W unit blew up (I suspected it would, my PC acted weird from time to time).

I have seen problems in the past where VPU recovery kicked in for no reason, but that was in past Catalyst drivers, not sure how it works now.

Sorry for the delay in answering your questions.

About the 120 FPS. I can be sitting on the ramp, in the cockpit, looking around, OR flying at 5,000 ft, in formation with a buddy of mine, and still get the 120. I might even have a picture of it somewhere. My graphic settings are medium. I had to pull the card (using my 9250 right now) because it started giving me serious problems. I cleaned it up, reinstalled it, and was having the same problems. I'm not sure if it's overheating, but to me it's obviously an issue with the card.

Pilotasso, I'm running on a 400W. could that be the issue? Also, about the drivers, when I went to ati.com, they didn't have any older 9800 series drivers. Do you know where I can get those?

Oh, and Kuky, I have everything set normally... no overclocking here (never tried to, and really don't want to. I'm having enough issues as it is :smilewink: ) I do have to agree with you on the stability of my system, hehe.

Hey Iguana,

Long time no talk! Yeah the weather was great this last week... but in 3 weeks I'm moving to Germany for a job I got (and a lady I met :D)... Anyway, I don't get any kind of corruption or bad graphics... it'll just pause the pc, and the monitor goes blank... however, on other occasions, it'll just shut down everything. I've been able to do one full flight with it not giving any issues. I'll try picking up a new heatsink/fan combo that might be better.

Good to see you're still around

Just a thought... You might try lowering the settings for your RAM ...

I run the "fs autostart" program to turn off all background programs and to defrag my RAM. also, it still does whatever it's doing even with settings turned down (but I get 140 FPS! kind of hard to fly formation when it's THAT smooth, hehe).... I don't know. I'm back in the 9250, and there's no point in getting a different card since I'm moving soon... I'll deal with it for now. Thanks for all the help though guys
